I dunno, seems excusable to me, Machine Shop's never seen a KLR before.

Now, somebody asking the same question at a wal-mart is just stupid.

I have had that same conversation more than a few times. A few years ago my local bike shop actually sold "power bands" as an accessory. They were just very large, thick rubber bands, but they came in a range of colours depending on your....ummm... requirements. The red were the fastest, of course, but were only recommended for race bikes...

Ok, I think this post wins the thread.

I love my KLR.
I get that all the time on my FJR.

Of course if you go to local KTM dealer and ask for a swingelement, they will know right what you are needing and bring you a 2 stroke pipe holder bracket thingy...

Auto Zone

At Auto Zone buying some 20W-50 oil:

Kid at the counter: "What are you using 20W-50 for?????" (very quizzical look)

Me: "motorcycle oil change"

Kid: In a condescending tone - "this isn't motorcycle oil, you need to buy specific oil for a motorcycle, this won't work, blah, blah, blah"

Me: "dry clutch"

Kid: "huh? what kind of motorcycle?"

Me: "BMW"

Kid: "oh"

At least he was paying attentionm to what he was selling.

Wich is a lot more than I can say for the majority of that company's counter people!

Got this one the other day, while waiting for a green light on my Duc:

"Why's that bike sounding like that?" No doubt alluding the the clacking of the dry clutch.

"Because it's waiting for the light to turn green!"

while stopped trying to determine what was making that god awful noise on my DRZ (it was a chain roller), a few guys on HDs sporting colours asked why I hadn't bought a "real bike" instead of a rice burner? Given the location at the time and the colours they were sporting (HA), I chose not to respond. Still thought it was a stupid question...
