I occasionally get the standard "why don't you ride a real bike?" comments. Oddly, from guys in pirate uniform but not on a bike. Ah the joys of living in Appalachia.
My standard reply to this is. "For an imaginary bike this thing sure is a hell of a lot of fun to ride."

I used to get that a lot when I had my little old CX500. Maybe because it was a twin and vaguely sounded like a Harley? Not sure. Once, a leathery middle-aged woman in the passenger seat of a minivan felt the need to roll down her window at a stoplight and yell "ain't no Harley!" at me. It was kind of unexpected so all I could think to reply back to her was "Thank god!"

I've never gotten any such comments from anyone actually riding a Harley, though. Don't know what it is that makes pedestrians and cagers get so nutty about bike brands. Maybe they put 20 miles on a meticulously polished chrome barge when one of those perfect 75 degree Saturdays comes around and think that makes them a "biker?"

It took me a while to figure this one out. I'm an idiot sometimes...

Sometimes when I stopped while out on my 1983 GS850G, a guy would walk up and ask me "How much you want for that?" or "How much you pay for that?".

I used to get a little irritated -- I thought it was a serious factual question, and it always caught me a little off-guard. I usually just blurted "er, it's not for sale." or "Uh, erm, um, I dunno, herp derp..."

Then one day I realized -- that's just how some guys compliment a nice vintage bike. They don't actually want to buy it or talk about Blue Book values -- they just want to take a good close look at it and talk about old motorcycles. Instead of saying "Hey, nice bike!" or "I usedta have one a' those!", they ask "How much?"

As I said, I am not a smart man sometimes...

Stopped at a liquor store for a few things on my way home from work the other day. It's about 20 degrees outside and there's snow and ice everywhere. The lady behind the counter takes a look at my gear and says to me, "You on a motorcycle?" I smile to myself because I think I know what's coming next, and tell her "yes."
She replies, "Wow. Be careful out there, it's getting dark!"

Every time I see a car with a Hawaii license plate, I always think, "Oh, they finally got that bridge finished."

I'm in Central Utah. It's winter. We've warmed up to lows in the 20's and highs in the 30's. People continue to ask if I'm cold

A new one today (at least, new to me):

(Roll up at the gas station on my 1200GS)
Them: "Is that your bike?" (when I'm the only one with a helmet and there's no other bike's around)
Me: (not in the mood for stupid but too nice to ignore a direct question) "Yes."
Them: "Isn't it a big big for you?"
Me: *blink* < ignore >
Them: (not getting the hint) "I always wanted a Harley, now there's a real bike."
Me: *sigh*

Sufficed to say, I got my gas across the street.

If it's stupid comments that you're after, go for a ride in the snow
