Because 'ation' is the appropriate suffix for a word ending in 'nt"( and some other endings, e.g. 're')!
Like 'Fermentation'...

Not a stupid question, but a frustrating one I get all the time at work.

During breaks I'll take a walk around outside, near where I park the bike. On a regular basis coworkers will say to me: "Great day for a ride, isn't it?"

I always reply politely, but inside I'm screaming to myself "It sure is! Thanks for reminding me that I'm stuck in my windowless office for another 4 hours before I get a chance to get back on the bike..."

Pretty much how I feel when I read some of the more amazing ride reports.

OK, here's one that just happened to me...as in minutes ago. I am going to lunch with a couple of old friends from a company I used to work for. After asking what I was driving/riding, one of them asked if he could, "...take a loop in the parking lot". I sent an e-mail back stating,
"I don't know Craig. Have you ever ridden a 900 pound bike at parking lot
speeds? Not exactly agile. I would be really pissed if you dropped it, and
Debbie would kill you first and then me for letting you ride it. Are you
absolutely sure you can handle it? You must understand that this bike is my
pride and joy at the moment. I would hate for something to happen that we
would both regret."

I have heard this guy has ridden motorcycles, but have never actually seen him ride. Did I do the right thing? And I might just add that since I sent that response he has not replied.

John

NO sympathy from all of us on this side of the pond. You have some of the best riding in the world, a couple hours away. We have to spend thousands just to dip our toes into the Alps.

Don't be stupid.

I was asked the rainy day classic this week "It's going to rain today (actually, it was a chance of showers only), won't you get wet? What do you do then?" I told her, "I'll get dry again. Wet isn't permanent." People act like you'll never be dry again, doomed to squish around in wet clothing for all eternity. Oh the humanity. It didn't rain that day.

I always say "I'm already wet on the inside."

I mean we are something like 70% water right??

It's not without controversy, though either are acceptable. Hearing it really grates on me, however. http://www.dailywritingtips.com/do-y...tate-yourself/
