I just finished building my first DLG last month. So far, I've only gotten two test flight sessions in, but I can tell it's gonna be addictive. I managed to catch some thermals last summer with a Multiplex Easystar and had a few 20+ minute flights after shutting down the motor - at that point I knew I had to get my paws on a proper glider. Here's looking forward to spring and thermal activity!

Easy* are so much fun...you can do so much with them. Plus they are very hard to kill.

Yep, I have a full set of navigation and landing lights on mine, and a simple wood platform that rubberbands on in place of the cockpit lid/hatch to hold a camera for AP duty. Doesn't hurt that I have a 200 watt brushless setup in it either.

I begin can't tell you how addictive DLG's are The guys I fly with have practically given up on all their other stuff (Warbirds, Pylons, Heli's, etc).

Yea, the EZ* is fun, I thought it was AWESOME when I started with it. But once I took the blue pill and got a DLG, I realized that every thing else just sucks for flight performance.

Remember, thermals aren't seasonal. They are always there, even in snow. So get out there and have fun.

Here's some of the guys I fly with (I was late getting to the field and didn't get in the video)

You're right - I was able to get a little lift, I'm assuming from the solar panel array next door, when I did my test flying session on a windless day a few weeks back. However, being able to feel my damn fingers on the sticks IS seasonal! I can only stand a few minutes at a time before my manual dexterity goes to pot in this subfreezing stuff.

Not quite unlimited vert., but it will climb out at about 70 angle to speck height. No ailerons yet, but I did replace the wimpy rudder with a 50% bigger hand carved balsa unit.

The closest thing I have to a glider is the easy*...my plane is now brushless also...just love those Hobby City cheapo electronics.

I am in love with the warbirds at the moment. And the WWI stuff has got me cooking lately....but I am too much of a whimp to go out and fly with snow on the ground.

Thanks for posting these, the First one, great!
Second one....not so much... I could feel your pain with your comment in a horrid whisper, "oh man". I must be a glutton for punishment because I still want a glider!

Not many thermals with all the trees and cold weather?
Do they have real time video to a monitor these days? THAT would be a dream to fly.

Gliders are cool. The first clip is with a powered glider that I enjoy flying, but hate to land.

Specs out in seconds.
Soars really well, it can actually get boring.

I have some very interesting wind/thermal/sink areas to deal with around here - depending on wind direction it can be really exciting.
