Well, where's the nearest farm store? They have to get thier product somehow.

That load is clearly headed to a Farmer's Co-Op or TSC/ATWOOD's/etc.

Horse corral panels, dog pen panels, fence posts, wire mesh...

Or, it could be going to a jobsite in the area, a farm that ordered the materials...

It's a US highway! Why hasn't Obama fixed it so they can get their goods to market? (Or maybe they could take two loads in shorter trucks?) Everything DOESN'T have to go in 55 foot trailers.......

NO confidence whatsoever, 4. Probably "steering" the bike through the turn.

Probably couldn't handle it on a peddle bike. Notice the lack of turn signals and what looks to be a fender eliminator? Shoulda spent a few bucks on rider training. But I bet he bragged to his budds about taming the Dragon!

I have not ridden the Dragon, but I have driven it in a rented Mustang, all in 2nd gear, tires howling, hit 60+ on occassion, passed one Chrysler, and one couple on a Harley that should have had a farm implement slow moving triangle on it. He would NOT lean the bike one bit through the turns. He finally waved me by. Later I had two BMW cycles behind me, held them off for maybe two miles until they blew past me, showing good lines in the turns and a smooth quick pace.
Impressive.

Based on the picture I'm pretty sure the truck is headed south. If a store, farm or job site needed those materials, then they should have been sourced from some location south of Deals Gap. There are just as many suppliers, manufacturers, etc south of Deals Gap as there are north of Deals Gap. I'll bet that if you watched long enough some day a similar truck carrying a similar load would be headed north through there. After living here for 12 years I've yet to see any reason or logic to what gets transported through Deals Gap.

All we need is one of those signs that says "maximum trailer 25 feet" or similar.

I've spoken with quite a few tractor trailer drivers who have gone through Deals Gap. Most of these guys are paid by the mile, not time. They take this road because it looks shorter on a map.

My thoughts exactly, GapRunr. I see no rhyme nor reason to take a truck that size down this road. Except that there must be a "Killboy MotherTrucker" thread on the net...

But just think... he did manage to leave his jacket and gloves at home, therefore saving them from disaster.

That sequence should be shown to the no helmet crowd. He might not have died or been rendered a vegetable, but he would have been fucked up worse than he was.

Good that he had a full face helmet on. Saves his face from a lot of damage.

That's because there's nothing between their ears that NEEDS protection.

I am going to say he would be dead with no helmet. His head hit at least twice and it hit first, before his arms or hands. that would have been a skull plant.

They don't ride like that so it can never happen to them.
