Look at pic 9. His superwide bash plate and crash bars levered off the front tire first. The back is still in contact. Bad design!

Alright, jeesh, I'm here already! It was me.

I came out of it without a scratch or bruise.

This was the first time on good twisty stuff since I added the crash bars/plate and luggage, so I wasn't quite expecting to hit hard parts as early as I did.

What these pictures don't show, is that I stopped on the shoulder of the road (where I am sitting in the last photo) where as, the bike continued rolling, and cartwheeled about 200 feet down the side of the mountain. We then had to drag it the 200' back up the mountain with a tow truck cable, and several lengths of extension chain.

The bike was obliterated.

Let me be the first to say that we're just glad you're OK!
Others can ask how fast? What kind of plate and bars? Etc.
I have that luggage on my KTM 990, and if it ever touched down like that there'd be a long brown streak on the pavement - but the bags are black

-dang! I so wanted to be first

Mikef5000: Glad you're alright! That's pretty scary, especially for a Tenere owner like me who's got an aftermarket skid plate (not yours) and will be riding the Dragon two weeks from Thursday...

Anyway, glad you're in one piece.

Glad you're ok too. Have you got any pics of the aftermath of the gear you were wearing? I'd like to see how that stuff worked out of you.

Glad you're OK. Bikes can be replaced. People can't.

Mikey! Glad you are OK man. Taken plenty of soil samples myself over the years, and luckily learned from "most" of them.

Sooooooooooo? Did you ever find your contact?

I lowsided in a similar way last fall- pannier grounded & lifted the rear- lots slower, mine was about 20mph on a right onto a highway entrance ramp. No cars involved. Hyperextended left knee, strained fingers on left hand even though I was off the bike in an instant. Wore a couple holes in the mesh pants but no other damage to gear. Messed up a bunch of stuff on the bike but it was functional so I rode home. I did pick up some quick/far leaning fear reactions which I'm still working on. Yours looks loads worse- scary!

I was riding the Cherohala yesterday and got this photo of the repair work on the wash out near the NC/TN line.

Find the fail?
