You would probably find a way to justify drunk driving.

Guy buys a Rune. He is a very large man. Comes back a couple of weeks later, he'd read up on his bike and says the bike is over GVWR when he gets on it, they sold it to him, he wants something done about it. The GVWR is 1153 lbs. and the fully fueled wet weight is 888 lbs. for a payload of 265 lbs. He weighs well over 300.

Dealer contacts Honda for technical support, asks about permissible way to increase weight rating, stiffer springs and what else. Honda, probably concerned with liability, tells him NO, the GVW is the GVW, that's it. Dealer tells customer.
The buyer had a point. His use of the vehicle put it over the GVWR and exposed him to added liability. Sad, but the Goldwing was blinged and farkled to the point where it could barely tote itself around.

That is such an UTERLY dumb and ignorant statement.

It's a yellow line, not a force field that stops people coming onto your side of the road. Not crossing it does not give you some infallible degree of safety.

What does is an understanding of how to drive and a safe use of the road.

If I can see beyond a turn, and use the other side of the road to make that turn, why shouldn't I?

To be honest, riding around assuming I am safe just because I am on one side of a yellow line that many cage, truck and other bike riders have no regard for, is the kind of ignorance that I believe is more likely to get you killed than constantly assessing where you are on the whole road and reacting accordingly.

I can see crossing the double yellow for a couple of reasons, and I do it myself. One, if you have good sight lines and wish to pass a slow moving vehicle. Two, in an emergency manouver if something is blocking the road. Three, there is no three. Straightening the road is just dumb, do that on a track.

If I cross the double yellow for any reason other than the two listed "I" AM messing up. If it causes a crash, it is on ME, no one else, and I could be called the idiot for riding over my head!

He didn't make up the meme, and this isn't a "what's cool" thread. It's a "WTF" thread.
