Why the fuck would an engineer decide to use a left-hand thread in that application? Is it some sick German sense of humor, or are they all that way for some reason?
Most tow ropes are wound the same direction, and will unwind the opposite direction when stressed (i.e. towing), so the thread on the towing eye is opposite the direction of that again. That way the rope doesn't loosen the eye, but tightens it instead. The other reason is so that you can't use other hardware in the mount for the towing eye, they don't want people using regular bolts and having them snap under load, so only the towing eye fits.

Thanks for the explanation. It did occur to me after I typed my post that it could be to counter the twist in a tow cable, but I didn't think the cable would turn more than one or two revolutions.

Here's a killboy pic to atone for my thread diversion.

I can only imagine this guy has a restraining order to stay 300 yds away from schoolyards and daycare centers.

Fuck it, this is the internet and I can post what I want.

Then post a funny cat video,

I don't know, there is a cult item "Hello Kitty" vibrator, that women of all ages laugh and then say, "I want one."

Didn't know that, but not too surprised. I had a bud that campaigned a Datsun B210 successfully in SCCA for a while. It was a combination of the class rules and the cost of the car that drove his selection, not that the B210 was a badass.

Yeah not saying the MX-5 is badassed, but it is a affordable roadster with very good handling. So like you said, it is driven by cost and class rules, though I am sure if you asked many of the racers would praise the car.
