What makes you think you're in any position to "scold" anybody?

As for fails - well the first thing that jumped out at me is wearing your helmet so high on your head. It should be rotated forward so you have an inch less of forehead showing in the face-port and your chin is not sticking out the bottom. As it is, you can't see the instruments without nodding your head. More than likely that helmet doesn't fit you properly or it would not be comfortable like that.

Still, these folks all appear to be having fun. The rug burns (if indeed that's what they are) are sinply further proof of that.

I have no excuse for the cowboy boots or being a pencil neck geek.
Don't stress it Yeps. We all start somewhere and usually with a simple and inexpensive gear. Then we learn what works and what doesn't and either we upgrade or leave it be...My first duffel bag was a black trash bag under a bungee net back in '95

I enjoyed reading your trip report Hope the rest of it is fun and safe....

Cheers,

I took a pretty good look at that site, the newspaper extracts in particular. I didn't even read Dan's respone on the right side of the first Willimantic Chronicle write-up before I got mad. It's frustrating that, no matter who's at fault in the accident, public opinion seems to be very much in favor of the rider causing the problem.

edit: and a very similar thing happened to a friend of mine in Daleville, AL in '06 on Hwy 84. An elderly woman turned left into oncoming traffic on a 4-lane split highway in an attempt to get to the intersection in the median and had a head-on with Mike. Even sadder was his wife was travelling just behind him and got caught at the traffic light at the intersection of 84 and Daleville Ave.
