No, I've actually had great stays at everything from many nights parked in gravel pits along the Alaskan highway, to holidays at Fort Wilderness at Disney World. I frequently use rvparkreviews.com to get a reasonably honest appraisal of a campground before I make a reservation, or blindly pull up to the door. You're right, a significant minority of privately owned campgrounds truely suck. but thanks to the interwebs, they are easily avoided.

For those of you who are not really into computers the year 2038 will represent another Y2K problem for the computer industry. Time values are typically stored in a 32-bit value with time 0 being January 1st, 1970. A 32-bit integer will run out of space in 2038 and will roll over and the clocks will think it's 1970 again. I'm sure folks will be smarter this time around and upgrade long before hand.

Donnie, if I put a dromedary box (garage for you Newbs ;) on the frame rails, what is the best way to load a motorcycle or two?

I have looked at the Rampage Power Ramp systems but those are designed for pickups and I am not sure how they would handle the extra height of a class 8 chassis.

Also, any thoughts on the relative costs of having a box built (or perhaps modified from a take-off truck cargo box) and/or a modest frame stretch?

My understanding is that most folks that single out a twin screw tractor retain the forward axle; I am thinking that retaining the rear axle would give me enough wheelbase for a drom box and space for a 5th wheel trailer hitch.

I am inclined to think in terms of retaining the existing 5th wheel but move it back over the center of the rear axle; when we ran boat hauling Kenworths that was the setup that we used and my future plans don't call for that much weight so I should be good for an RV toter.

Check out Kelderman suspensions, they have some AMAZING stuff on their website, I saw a lift they built on there for a guy to put his road glide behind his tractor. When it loaded or unloaded it was flat on the ground, just ride on, strap on, and lift it into place, hydraulically. I think they had a video of it in use. They also do custom air suspensions for anything.

The Volvos also turn better, I could u turn in a 4 lane street with a 36' trailer, with the same size International I'd need to back up for more room on the same street. PLUS, The Volvos ride like a Caddy, especially if you can find one with an air ride front axle, hard to find, but they exist.
