Yes, but if you'll give a milepost to the site, I'll salvage the debris.

Wicked Coldfoot Challenge!

Long range forecast makes the 16th look better than waiting another week 'til the 23rd, so I'm continuing to plan for next Saturday. It's supposed to be a bit chilly, but little rain (except through Isabel Pass, but it rains on me 50% of the time there). Will try to make a final determination by Thursday evening. Have to finish a little wiring job on my new caribou spotter -

That's the HID version. Should show me the way in the dark of the night.

Jack, did you have to increase your insurance to cover such a drastic increase in the value of the KLR? I feel sorry for the alternator.

Alas, I'm stuck with a 24/7 oncall rotation at work for the next two weeks so I'll have to bow out of this one.

Okay, let us think this through. You've placed a light on the front of.... er (don't want to be insulting)... let me think here... er.. okay I have it.... a piece of crap motorcycle. The light generates more energy than the rest of the motorcycle combined (discounting the BTUs generated by the operator from his nether regions, but those are contained in his stich one piece suit until expelled through the neck hole. While this contributes to the traction available to the rider, it does not assist in forward propulsion), and that light energy is focused in direct opposition to the desired direction of travel. Jack, are you adept at riding a motorcycle in reverse or are you just one photon short of a lumin?

Y'know... I really appreciate the pushbutton reverse on the Wing, so I was thinkin'... how can I have something like that on the KLR?

But don't try to get ahead of me in a race. I'll vaporize you.

Discretion Is The Better Part of... Being A Wuss

Looks like this ride will have to be postponed. Road reports for the Dalton Hwy are not looking favorable. Temperature seems to be holding around 23° with calm winds, all the way from around Finger Mt to well past Gobbler's Knob, and driving conditions are described as "difficult". And that's for vehicles with 4 wheels on the ground.

Vehicles coming in from Anchorage have had the remnants of snowfall on them, and my cousin reported over 2" on the ground in Slana this morning. All in all, this does not bode well for a quick round trip to Coldfoot. Before any other punster replies with such a quip... yes, I'm getting coldfeet!

Dang! Brand new TKC80's on both ends, fresh brake pads on the rear, bike and I both ready to take off on a ride... and the weather decides to puke. Guess I'll go up and see how far in on the Denali I can get from the Paxson end. Should be open all the way today, if they keep their promise.

Anyhow, you FF's in Fairbanks get a reprieve (not that I really believed any of you were going to crawl out of bed before noon on a weekend anyway ), but be alert for future challenges.

Wise Decission.......

I heard a couple of truck drivers talking on the CB the other day. One said the Haul Road sucks and it took him 15 hours to go from Deadhorse to Fairbanks. Sound more like the road was rough more than too much snow.

This does note bode well for Mr. Ryan's ride.

It's bad up there today.

Just talking to my next door neighbor, who is an Alyeska Security guard. He said that that area is in what they call Phase 2 condition. Phase 1 is bad, Phase 2 is real bad, Phase 3 is "Don't go anywhere unless you absolutely have to", and Phase 4 is "Road Closed". This is weather related, so should improve as soon as the weather gets better. But not gonna happen this weekend.

Should change well before he gets here. But not necessarily for the better.

So what I am reading here makes my leaving for Coldfoot this Sunday the 17th from Oregon sound even more fun. As Alcanrider said the weather should change by then. I hope for the better. Its an ADVENTURE!

Off topic but, any idea how the TOW would be to ride this time of year?
