Wow.

I just made your sunset shot on post#1 my background. Fantastic! I also really loved the night shot of the instrument cluster in post#3.

Mind posting the camera that you used?

Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pictures...

Love your pics of that amazing country. How would you rate the difficulty of those dirt roads? How about the tight switchbacks?

I've done a decent amount of off-pavement on my '06 Uly (way inferior to 990 in dirt, I know...) and would sure like to pass through that area on my way back from Seattle (home to Albuquerque) in late June.

I know, that time of year it is HOT there. But I'm used to it (bike, too).

Thanks!

Wow. I haven't played Half Life in years. I didn't even think of that.

XDBX, Yes. I'll comment on bike comparisons and reriding the same route.

The Road to Moab

The Moki Dugway is an easy section of gravel swithbacks on the otherwise paved 261 highway.

At the top of the plateau I turned left onto the Muley Point Road. The gravel and sometimes rocky road out to the point was a blast. The views of the goosenecks from the top are spectacular and well worth the detour. In warmer weather this would be a better choice for camping, since it's about 2000' higher than where I slept last night.

I may need to investigate the road below someday.

Monument Valley can be seen in the distance.

After completing the 261 I depart from last October's route. Instead of heading west to the Lake Powell Ferry, Burr Trail, etc, I mosey up to Moab. I have bigger plans for tomorrow.

I pull into Moab around 2PM. Time to find a camping spot.

I would have loved to ride the Burr Trail again in order to see how well this bike works compared to the Aprilia. Maybe some other day. So far this bike is a blast to ride. The gravel roads are much easier with this bike. It runs the asphalt twisties pretty good as well. Other than the seat this bike is even a better touring machine than the sport-tourer. Not to say the KTM seat is really bad. It just doesn't come close in comfort to the Aprilia seat, which is the best I've ever sat on.

There has been much discussion in Orange Crush about the wind noise and buffeting of the KTM windshield. I have the KTM stock and KTM Touring screens. Both are better than the Aprilia in windnoise. There may be a little more buffeting with the KTM Touring shield. I can actually listen to music for long periods of time on the KTM with either shield. This is something I can only do at lower speeds with the Aprilia.

My $0.02 is that the KTM is a far more capable machine in almost all aspects, and more fun to ride!
