Man Ball rolls through Coloutahrado!

I’m a journalist by training and I like things concise. No flowery language, no screeds on the meaning of it all. I ain’t no feckin’ poet; if I was my job prospects might be better.

So let’s get right down to what this report is and isn’t.

IS:
• The story of yet another ride through the well chronicled terrain of Colorado and Utah; hence Coloutahrado. I really wanted to use “Utahlorado,” but another ride report already grabbed that and I can’t stand it when someone copies stuff without attribution. That’s plagiarism, ya know. So Coloutahrado it is. And a tip of the hat to the guys who used the other, better, term first.
• The document of a trip at least nine months in the planning. The initial idea was totally different than what panned out. We were going to have five or six guys do a Heart of the West-type ride on big trailies. Then the roster changed, budgets changed, my employment status changed, etc. Reminds me of the time I planned a trip to Mexico with six riders and ended up going solo. Maybe I smell bad.
• An effort to actually come back with some interesting documentation. I have a really bad habit of not taking pictures. I get in the moment riding, I’m grouchy or hungover or whatever, and I don’t feel like taking out the good camera. That’s bad and I tried to overcome it this time. (Best photography advice I ever read: “F8 and be there.” That’s from a National Geographic shooter.) My riding partner, Earl, shot all the video. His editing skills have progressed tremendously since he bought a Go Pro and an iMac. He’s the next John Ford.

ISN'T:
• A reference to balls, nuts, testicles, etc., as one person thought. Think of it more like a knot, two riders working closely together, friends who can stand each other's company for two weeks. Sounds a little ghey—not that there’s anything wrong with that—but we’re both straight. Another friend coined the term and it stuck. Thanks Matt.
• Besides, wouldn’t that be “man balls”?

Enough flibber-flabber. On with the show!

Your hosts:

On the left we have Earl (Earlevet): Raconteur, bon vivant, veterinarian. Rides the life out of an ‘07 BMW X Challenge.

On the right we have yours truly, Bob (Scribe): Boring family guy in bed by 10 p.m., state employee, shitty guitarist. Rides a ‘14 690 Enduro R he got for Father’s Day slowly and steadily. Dreams of being able to wheelie better. Or at all.

Here’s a little trailer Earl put together. Enjoy.

Please, don't encourage him/them. We have to live with those two jokers and today's our weekly swill. They'll expect free libations if you give them too much praise.

Can't wait to hear some of the stories. I'm sure there are two sides (versions) for most.

Two sides indeed: My side and the wrong side. Ha. Joking. Earl will chime in here I'm sure.
