Alright, I replaced the DooHickey and spring 3 days ago, installed a fork brace last night.

I've decided on the IRC VE33 tires for the race. I'll ride down with the DOT's and then swap wheels. I, at first, wanted to do the race on DOT's but better sense prevailed.

My IMS tank will be here anyday now. And my second radiators are awaiting a day off work for installation.

More updates as the race nears.

DooHickey report...

I gave the great Cavemans KLR a good once over at the Tellico KLR ride this past weekend. I will mimic his set-up on the dual radiator installation.

I'll be installing the IMS tank today, pics to follow.

Also, rim-locks will be installed today...with the edges good and sharp so they'll dig in the tire a bit better(more Caveman advice ).

Hi Al,

I'm #146 in Iron Man 40+ and am looking forward to the event. TreeMan told me about the PM24 and I knew that I had to try it out.

See you there!

Chuck

Well, I'm making progress on the bike.

New clutch plates w/heavy duty springs, new water-pump seals, 2nd radiator plumbed up, oil and filter change, oil screen cleaned, doo-hickey done, cables lubed, spare clutch cable ready, spare levers, spare shifter, IMS tank here(to be installed tonight), Cogent shock should be here today(installed tonight if here), fork brace installed, IRC tires will be mounted tonight(they'll be hauled down by a friend and the wheels swapped out at the race), all rear racks removed, side crash guards removed, I couldn't find any place for the horn...so it's off, numbers placed on bike, new rear brake pads, gear all packed up(3 pair of ridin' socks...don't want wet feet for 24 hours), installed a strap across the rear behind the seat(for lifting the bike out of anything it gets stuck in),.............uh....I'm sure ther's more that I'm forgetting about.

I'll stick some pics up here before the race.

I'm lookin' forward to this.

Al -

You're nuts! But, I love the concept, the preparation, the acceptance of what lies ahead, and the contrarian drive to see just how far you can push it and make it all it can be. Good on ya! I'm cheering for you. Plenty of pics from your support crew during the adventure to add dimension to your post-race epistle.

Be safe, ride smart, and most of all, HAVE FUN!

Cheers,

Dave

??????????????????????????????

So, Al, . . . what's the story? Pictures? Receipts from hospital, court, local establishments? A KLR with a retired road racer piloting in rural Alabama has unlimited tall tale potential. Don't keep us waiting . . . . .

Just 72 hours from now I'll, possibly , be lost in the Perry Mountain MC trail system....suffering from dehydration and muscle fatigue to the point of being unable to feel my hands. My ass will be sore as my Monkey Butt powder can't withstand the profuse sweating off my 60lb. overweight body. I'll have switched to my comfy Sidi Discovery boots, giving up on the whole MX boot idea of protection, just giving in to "I'm tired, my feet hurt....to hell with it". My stock headlight will be making every small hole look like a 4 ft. deep ravine that "Damnit how have I not seen that all day!!!". I'll start marking where bodywork pieces have fallen off my KLR with the trip meter, maybe somebody can go pick'em up for me.

But, my Eagle Mike Doohickee will still be doing it's job. The Cogent Dynamics Moab shock and front springs will be making the ride, and control, as good as any can. The K-9 fork brace will be helping me get the front tire out, of yet...another rut. The additional radiator will be keeping things nice and cool, well...the bike cool at least. The custom built seat my brother built for me will be tired of my fat ass sitting on it, "Aren't you supposed to stand up!!!"

I'd like to say I'm ready for this, but I know I'm not Maybe I should have done a bit of running, or maybe just cut down some on the Yuengling comsumption

It'll be a fun 2 days anyhow...I can't wait.

I'll have lots of pictures to post up next week after the race. I'll take the camera out on a lap with me to get a few shots of the more technical sections. This will be on one of my many "I'll just take it easy for a couple of laps" laps.
