KTM 950SE Inner Fender on a 950SM

The Problem: The KTM 950SM has a little "hugger" style inner fender which allows dirt and road crap to roost the shock, including the shaft and lower mount (which is a pivot point). That's bad.

Ick.

The Two Pronged Solution: First step was a Traxxion Dynamics Shock Sock:

...which does a stellar job at keeping the shock clean. However, the lower mount is still open to the elements. Something had to be done.

Enter the 950SE Inner Fender.

It bolts directly to the SM under seat fender tray (actually the same part number as the SE), and protects the lower shock mount perfectly. Only problem was I have an Akropovic Evo full system with huge collector tubes and the recess on the SE fender was too small.

A bit of work with a heat gun and a torch gave me the clearance I needed and it mounted up. It wasn't pretty and kinda looks like it got caught in a house fire, but what the hell, it's under the bike and will be covered in dirt and mud and cow shit the next time I ride it.

I have it hung with sheet metal screws at the moment, but as soon as I post this I'm going back out to the garage to pull the battery box and come up with some better hardware to mount it more securely.

I think this will work out well, and will now pull the shock and clean the pivot (again) and we should keep everything under there cleaner.

I love inventing!!

Looks good Chuck. What size Traxxion did you order?

Thanks! It was fun. That's the 8" cover. I think it was about $20 shipped. One could probably get one cheaper from an ATV or snowmobile shop. I just found this on ebay and got impatient.
