Nathan Welcome to the USA

I live in western, Ohio near Dayton, i'm close to the United State Air Force Museum. If this area is in your plans we would be honored to provide accommodation and Hospitality. I'm in a village called Enon. I may be a day west of Sion.
Ash Cave near Sion is a great ride.
I took my trail 90 to the Rockies in Utah and the c Cascade Range in Oregon and Washington States in July.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Appreciated.

Finally all set to go. Picture below was taken this morning in Brooklyn, outside the hostel I've been staying in, down near Canarsis.

Been a turbulent few days getting to this point. Riding from JFK to Manhatten was holly crap scary. I had a slow puncture on the front, no front brake cos the lever had snapped, it was raining so no grip on the road and after a while I realised I'd not tightened the rear axle bolt, so the wheel was wobbling as I rode along the highway and under the tunnel to the city.

So not best of starts.

Struggled to get a replacement lever, and spare inner tubes. Getting insurance was tricky, and this morning I got pulled by NYPD for my licence plate. They sent me to DMV who said no way could I register my bike here and that I'd have to ship it home.

Panicked by this, I started a thread on the North East regional forum asking for advice and straight away some good guys started making calls to the DMV and other authorities. Turns out I'm fine. Just flustered. Nervous, a bit scared of getting back on the road. It's been a while, and I've got no excuses now. Gotta ride.

I guess it's cos I don't have the naivety of last time. I wish I had it now.

Route west is sketchy, but I'm aiming for San Fran.

Don't think I'm going to keep a rolling blog. I really want to enjoy the adventure this time, and post about it afterwards. I really value the contribution you guys made last time, and the input you've had since. So will drop by from time to time with some pics. (though my SLRs on the blink so resorting to compact.

Travelling fairly light, though intending to streamline along the way. Got six weeks. Then start a job in October. My final ride for a while then. A small window to answer that single desire to head west, and keep on going until there's not much choice but to stop.

Been a long long journey, as anyone following this thread will know. Where does it end, where does it start. Simple truth, it never does. Life goes on.

I wish you all well. This ride has been a blast. A life changer. I'm not so much NathanthePostman. Just Nathan will do.

As for Dot, she's a megastar, running just fine on the top RON of fuel, touching 105kays on the needle, though that being 10-15 kay over reading. But feels fast as hell.

Make it to San Fran? Hell why not...

See you all out there.

Ride on, Ride safe.

Dot and Nate.

Nathan, let me know when you get near SF. I am right across the bay.

If it comes to that, let me know. After inspiring Tesla and I to take up riding, I don't think either of us could live with the idea of Dot ending up with someone who won't appreciate how far she's traveled. Alternately, let ADV know and we'll move mountains to help get Dot home to England again.

I like your idea to just enjoy the ride instead of writing about it along the way. If you need help with anything, whether it's mechanical trouble or questions on where to find some good local food, just post here. Your "pit crew" of ADV readers and Bigzoner MF England members will provide all the support we can.

Good luck!

Hey, I know that plantation! Great spots indeed.

Hope to see you on the road Nate. The Dude and I are hitting the asphalt in two weeks for a multiweek roadtrip and I can't wait!! No real route planned yet but maybe somewhere along the way we'll pass a familiar postie bike.

WOW, that's exciting news Nathan! Welcome to North America. I still think you should be riding across Canada though, but perhaps next trip? Good news about the job too. Have a fun trip! Dot looks great!

Laugh Just a update

Nate and Dot are doing fine.
I came across them on their way as I was on mine to get some grub.

I spotted Nates helmet and knew who it was not three miles from my door step.

I turned around and passed a few cars and caught up with Nate and Dot. Dot was happy to be on the open road. ( you could just tell.) but nate looked a bit frazzled. I guess no sleep and NYC traffic will do that to you.

After intros I had them follow me to the house. We brought sweet Dot inside the basement and Nate had a spot of tea.
Poor Nate looked very road tired. I hope he will spend a day or two if he needs it. Better rested then busted down.

Sweet Dot took to being rolled on the red carpet and settling in with her room mates of a minxy 86 Yamaha FZ and a burly 07 KLR. ( I think Dot liked the idea of not being too far from Nates bed.)

After Nates Tea I took him out to town for chineese food in the motorcycle support vehical, I let Nate drive a few miles as he was taken by the pickups size. He got to see his old camp along the way.

We ordered too much food, but it will keep a day in the fridge. After Nate ate he was short lived. Between all he has been thru he was done. I showed him where the lights were and the bedding was and he got a few things from Dot and was out.

I hope that he will take a day if he needs it.

I told him that he could stay as long as he wanted. A day a week a month or a year. what ever he needs.

Well, the doors are locked Nate, Dot and I are all settled in for the night.

I thought you all would like a update.

Wonderful to hear that Nate and Dot have found a safe haven, and hope Nate has a chance to catch up on some sleep, and get to enjoy the rest of his trip. Thanks for the update!
