94rwhp bitches!

The little pod filters suck 5hp out of the bike so they have to go. I'm going to look for some big bell mouths for the carbs and see about refitting the stock airbox somehow like Flanny did. But I feel so much better I can't tell you.

Seriously...we should see about getting some hyper stacks made for the FCRs. They use HUGE K&N Pods that fit over the velocity stack. Bet that would make a lot more power..

I'm completely with you. I feel like this is where I should have been starting. The bike with the little pods made 89 - the same 5hp down as before. They are worthless and when I had my Hyper I had those big Wasp stacks on and that kit made 10rwhp but the Hyper had a horrible airbox - the 950 not so much. I will look for a good set of bellmouths and if I can't find them I do know a person with a CNC lathe that owes me a favor...

These were from my Hyper:

I'd try to make them myself on the lathe but it would involve a having to make a turning attachment before I could make the bell mouth and I need another project like a hole in the head.

I think that the reasons for the poor showing before was the TPS and the exhaust flanges which weren't sealing all the way. Probably more the flanges. Most of my day was spent making new ones but it's good to see the difference between my first effort and the ones I made today:

Big improvement in my welding skills. Now we'll see if I can get the whole thing buttoned back up and ride it to Philly. Philly is on the way to Portland I think...

Great news!

So, Gregor, you lost 30hp just because of the pods???

You are correct - that is some nice welding..

I have these 150mm Uni-filter pods.

I have excellent torque down low and have had the bike dyno'd = 101hp.

My issue is at high speed it runs out of puff, like it's running out of air.

I would sure like to fit a velocity stack inside my filters, so I am very interested in whatever you manage to work out.

That's what I'm currently running as well. If we could get some honking long velocity stacks to put inside those, it would be pretty cool.

Those pods look like they touch. How about joining them through a hole at that point? or maybe fab-up one oval filter to serve both carbs? That way the carbs could trade-off using the entire available surface area, rather than just half each.

If you look up CPR Fab and Motohooligan you'll find two solutions like that already and I agree it might be a better solution. Those are for injected engines but it might be converted or fitted. I think the big bellmouth will be a big help and more so if it can live in the still air of a box.

I want to ride the bike right now so I'll make do without the box or perhaps order one of those. The CPR one is foam on top so would get more cool air but it's from England so would take too long.

Ken your bike works - don't think about any of this!

Hopefully 94 is my jumping off point now and I can find some more. I don't want to jinx myself but I'd sure like to find another 16 or so. 110 would be worth the trouble.

CJ sells CPR kits for the 950's. CPR Filters

I don't know how the FCR carbs are situated but I doubt that you can take the stock 950 CPR base designed for CV's and use them for the FCR's. That'd be too easy.

What about this...

You turn a piece of tubing with a matching diameter to the FCR intakes, then cut them at whatever angle is needed so the tops are level and the bottoms are flush with the FCR's.

Then, take a piece of rubber hose and cover the connections so it'll be airtight, sort of like how the rubber hose covers the connection between a dirt bikes carb and the air box.

Take a flat plate to use as the base for the CPR filter and weld it to the tops of the metal tubes. This will act as a support for the filter and also as a velocity stack. Since the tubes will be flush with the FCR's, it should support the negligible weight of the filter.

Attach filter and you now have more air intake and velocity stacks.
