So it's looking like my friend Ben and I will be driving down to Taos with out bikes for the rally. I'd love to ride it down but since I'm still working out the kinks and my time is limited it's just going to be easier to drive.

For anyone who's been following this and has been considering the conversion to AWD or is dying to know what an AWD KTM 990 is like with a set of tuned FCR's I'll be happy to let you try the bike out. Either send me a PM or find me in Taos. I'll leave the bike at the Revit booth so you can check it out - remember it's not exactly "finished" (and my never be) but it's a chance to see it in person and maybe even ride it as well.

I've sent my dirt wheels to Woody for a relace and rebuild with the second Christini hub and ordered a set of big honking knobbies so the bike should be ready to rip and right now everything seems to be working well. Maybe we can set up a drag race with an 1190?

No matter what it will be nice to meet anyone who's followed this (very) long journey.

This thread has been epically long but it is now nearing the end. I may continue to update it as I make small changes to the bike but to me the goal has always been to "finish" the bike and take it to the KTM rally. That's about to happen.

Now, you don't work for four years on a bike (to powdercoat the swingarm if you recall) and just leave it in a plain black wrapper. Nope. You don't. Pages and pages ago I outlined my idea for a graphic treatment and finally it's coming to fruition. In calling around Portland I found Kevin of Kolor-Werx, who may not be good at spelling but is ace at wraps.

We start off by printing the graphics which I managed to get with the help of my friend Ben who sourced a NYC CAD map and then I found a Mt. Hood topo map in vector format with layered information so I could remove any type or text. I only want the graphic info of elevation or streets.

Kevin prepped the bodywork which was a bit hammered from banging around the shop despite never really being used.

Normally I hate any kind of faux finish - especially fake carbon. It's just tacky. But, when I saw the carbon that Kevin had, with it's full texture and weave it looked better than the actual carbon on the bike and I wanted the center sections of the bike to not have graphics. I used a carbon weave with Renazco on my seat so it seemed right to go with it. Besides, the screen was pretty scratched up.

The left side is laid out to figure positioning.

And Kevin gingerly massages and trims the vinyl into place.

And that's where we were at when I had to leave to pick up the kids.

When we raced we were called "Team Incomplete" because we were never really ready or finished. My bike will be loaded onto the truck tomorrow to head to Denver with no bodywork in place. We'll get to Denver and pick up my set of wheels from Woody and then, at the rally, I'll finish putting the bike together. Just like old times.

I'll be sure to get some shots of the bike when it's all together and before I crash it and ruin the beautiful design. And I'm looking forward to seeing what the bike is like with a proper set of knobbies on a propper set of Woody's wheels. Stay tuned!

Seeing as how I'm now in the land of the working I can't make it to Taos but I do have a few friends headed down that way. One is a GNCC B racer so I think I might see if I can get him on your 990 to tell me how she goes.

Graphics look killer too. If my safari tanks didn't vent fumes like a nuclear sub in an emergency blow I'd have something like that on mine.

Well, I didn't bring a laptop so you'll have to wait until Monday night unless you're at the KTM rally in which case I'm leaving the bike at the Revit tent so come by and check it out. Katoom, have your buddy find me at Revit.

Don't worry, I'll wrap it up with some nice shots. Just not yet!

You're a professional photographer... Borrow someone's smartphone for Chris's sake and use smugmug to attach a few. This suspense it deathly... I wish I could have been there, can't you tell...
