Cams are stock.

Okay, Flanny's bike is done. The stacks gained 6-7ft/lbs in the middle - a solid 10% increase. We also gained hp but the majority of the gain is all in the middle. Big midrange torque increase. Here's the really interesting thing. We just overplayed the curves of Gino's 990R over Flanny's bike and Flanny's bike is actually making 2-3 more ft/lbs in the middle than the 990R. The 990R gains at the very top where the power tapers off on the 950 but overall the 950 FCR makes more in the middle. Where you want it.

Now onto my bike.

Cool, because I thought Flanny's bike was really strong BEFORE you did this.

Gregor

I tried to edit my cam timing post and ended up just canning it...

Looking forward to more progress! Hope your home rolled exhaust system is worth something positive in the dyno differences. I understand there will be displacement and cam differences, but that welding practice should count for something too!

We're getting tired and dizzy from the fumes but on my bike the stacks were worth just under 10% in the middle and again my bike made significantly more torque than both Flanny's 950 and Gino's 990R. In fact the only place the 990R had an advantage was from 8500-9500 but everything below my bike made more power and torque.

We just tried replacing my X pipe for two straight pipes and it was a a big loss after 5000 rpm. We're trying to fit my H pipe now for a comparison.

I've been following this thread for a while and I really think the 39s are what is killing your top end. They just don't flow enough CFM. The mid range is getting pumped up thanks to the better tuning for that range (longer intake, cross-over exhaust). A set of 41s would improve the top end, though probably at the expense of low-mid range.

We just had that discussion actually. I'd like to try a set before I bore mine out but considering the roll off at the top I'm pretty sure you're right. Lots of thing point to going bigger on the carbs.

Alright, this makes me sad to report but my H pipe made a clean 1hp gain over my X pipe and while I'm a little bummed (because I'm going to have to remake it better now) I'm also happy to know I did the test and that its worth 1hp and a similar torque gain throughout so ill keep it.

Biggest surprise is that the stacks made 6-8hp more but a solid gain all throughout the torque curve besting even the 990R that was running a pipe. Chris will be pulling together some comparative curves which we'll share tomorrow so you can see the gains in the middle. For now we're going to get some fresh air and go celebrate with another dinner at Gino's (where both Flanny and I can boast that our bikes make more torque).

Okay, done for today.

Very interesting stuff so far.
I have a set of 39's waiting to go into my 950 (kids absorbing all my spare time now)
What would it take to get my hands on some stacks? And a TPS mount? And final jetting specs?

I also have a used 990 motor on the bench - waiting for the day the 950 grenades (which is hopefully not anytime soon)

So.....how's about welding a set of pipes for me......

You and Gino need to come down to the Gap and let Wheeler work his magic on Gino's 990. He'll fix all that herky jerky shit. Then we can have a race over the Cherohala Skyway so Gino and I can show you that FI is better.

You guys are great for sacrificing so many brain cells at the alter of LC8 and then heading out to Gino's, to throw yet another metric of braincells away, bragging about all the dead braincells killed today...

Toast to the HP hunters!

edit to add:
Glad you can do away with your "x" pipedream, a pony is a pony... Means Y-pipes(2-1) are prolly even less desirable!

If you mean the choke then yes, we spoke about it tonight and Chris is going to look to take mine apart and see at what would be involved to install a choke on the FCR. I've also asked him to reverse engineer (or frankly improve on) my TPS bracket. I think there's a fair bit that Chris could put his talents to in regards to the carbs so we'll be talking about that and I'll be leaving my bike unbuttoned so he can start to plan the final version of the stack.

Oh, never mind, I just saw where you're from. Yes, we spoke about that project as well. Flanny and I both told Chris that he should be making three sets of parts.

I'll post up tomorrow with dyno charts and photos and just recap the day. Also, Flanny will be riding the kit back home so hopefully he'll be able to chime in on how the bike feels now and give a little velocity stack ride report.
