the valve inside the fuel line disconnector which does not allow fuel to flow out once the disconnector is... well ..... disconnected !!!!

so dont go around disconnecting the fuel line, turning the engine over and get baffled cos no fuel flows out. It is NOT supposed to !!!

the round paper filter ???

Do you think there is any possiblility to use paper from some other filter to excange the filter in the original KTM filter. I mean take the old dirty KTM filter apart and well, hmm, put paper from some stock cheap filter there instead ????

It would save a lot of money if possible.

Just thinking aloud , maby its not possible but would be nice to look into it. Have to take my filter out when back home and look into this.

The round paper filter seldom gets blocked as it is down stream of the fuel flow, after the sock filter. The sock filter is at the intake side of the fuel pump and is the one which usually gets blocked.

If you want to use paper from some other filter to exchange the media on the round filter then some one will have to cut open theirs and post pics about how it is built, and that some one is NOT going to be me (atleast for now) cos my filters are sparkling clean at the moment.

If you want to do this on thesock filter, then it is not possible, as the sock filter is made up of multiple filtering layers. One of the options would be to do some thing like this :

some options ?

http://www.keihin-us.com/oem/products/fuel_pumps/

Downloaded the available datasheet on the above page and i find that the only fuel pump matching the dimensions is the Type C or Type D pumps. I, however have no idea about the flow or pressure ratings. Can some one confirm this ? If we are sure that these are the pumps being used, we might be able to give the data to some distributor and keep the fingers crossed.

This contact page, unfortunately seems to be useless if you are an Individual customer. Yeah, thats us suckers !!!
http://www.keihin-us.com/oem/contact/

aren't there no folks in OC who have the contacts in Keihin / KTM who can find out how n where to procure the OEM fuel pumps ?

Having already had a warranty replacement at 1300 miles, I'd sure be interested in an option where the pump was outside the tank. Maybe this winter, I'll do some looking around as well.

Thanks for researching, Mr. Vicks. There has got to be a solution other than a $500 pump with a poor performance history.

brand new my tanks were full of crap. nylon shavings and reddish grains of something sand like. and the filters were packed with nylon shavings.

and the orings were trashed by the friday build job on assembly. the tank has a sharp lip on the install and they shaved half the oring installing it.

took a Vargas knife and radiused the lip and grabbed new 10 cent nitril orings from work. still have a complete kit in the box for when it really needs it. Not cheap.

trying to think outside the tank here

Would it be possible to just remove the intake filter and run a in-line filter outside the tank? Its prob a bad idea to not have a intake filter to protect the pump but....

I will be replacing my filters for the first time in about 2 weeks and will have 20,000 miles on my 990A. So far I have had no problems but I would like to find a system that is easier to service since I will be ridding to South America next year.
