Eh? Recycling Motorcycles

I have decided that buying a second hand motorcycle, truck or car is the same as recycling. The product is already been built and the energy and resources expended to manufacture the equipment in question. This also pertains to getting as much mileage out of your equipment as possible. Wastes not, want not. Any thoughts?

They will probably still build too many new ones but I see your point and good on ya for it.

Craigslist.
Tons of "needs TLC" or "No Title, runs, good for parts" bikes on there. Handy with a wrench and have a garage? Pick up a dozen of these things in the fall/early winter, shoot for the same bike/brand/type if you can, and have yourself a few projects over the sleepy months. Clean carbs, routine maint., apply for titles, etc... sell them in spring.

Fall bike cost: ~$200
Spring bike price (post project): $1000
plenty of bikes seem to change price like that over the winter, even if no one's done work on them. Just beware the bikes aren't stolen, any cop can run a VIN for you.

I agree, Economics Professor Don Boudreaux actually has made this same point (in a WSJ op ed I think, but it could have been published elsewhere - he pops up all over).
