Thanks Buzz, I just may take you up on it.
Its been many years and many pounds ago.
As I said, I think I may be too damn big for one now.

Is it like you remembered?

I remember good fun flat tracking it on dirt roads, jumping berms and wheelies too.
I also remember its tiny fuel tank, the range was kind of frustrating.
I had a Ninja 250 too, so I was not really impressed with its road handling and as noted range.
It was a great 2 up bike though by comparison and the shaft was a very nice feature.
It was stupid cheap back then, I want to say I paid around $1000 as it was a couple years old and still sitting on the showroom.

Well I was with ya right up until the wheelies part, because as Papa Smurf always says, "Wheelies are unsafe and illegal." And not approved by Swampy.

I was as tall, 6'-6", but only around 160 lbs back then.
Not quite the gorilla on a tricycle like it would be now.

I bought the Gen 1 250 because it fit me better than 600 ninja of the day.
My knees fit into the pockets on the tank/fairing where they didn't on the 600.
The Gen 1 had pretty good ergos and was an amazing handling bike in the day, I think better than the later versions.

Alright, I lied about the wheelies, everyone knows you can't wheelie a shaft drive bike.

To quote Morgan Freeman, You sho' right about that, Miss Daisy.

I can personally vouch for the fact that an R12GS will do this right here. Well, Buzz's R12GS will, anyway.

But shafties won't wheelie, it must be true cuz I read it on the interwebz

Bike feels TINY and nowhere near the advertised ~400 weight either. Wheelies? well we might have ta see about that, but it would need to be a professional rider on a closed course. Joey and I used to chase each other on the Ascot and my '76 Yamaha 125 through the woods.. Yes back then there was a LOT of dirt road flat tracking going on.... That's before I knew you had to have all sorts of stuff like helmets and what-not to ride a motorcycle... Last one was my only mode of transportation for about two years, so I got to know it pretty well back then. 100-120 miles was the range. You MUST jet, and sync the carbs to keep from burning a hole in the rear piston. Final drive issues were non existant. Blinkers fell off when the bike got sleepy, but always popped right back on. The tires seemd to last FOREVER. Valves never needed adjusting. Doughnuts are possible- so are burnouts.

So I hear that the r12 will do a pop-a-wheelie, but I'm no way in a position to verify that
