OK, BMW cultists, what kind of a deal is this:

http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781423

OK? Not good? Great? Insanely good/bad?

I have a friend looking for a first bike and he likes the F650's (thus two sets of plastics is a good thing). According to KBB/NADA it's either worth $4500 or $2500, and the asking prices on here seem to be in the $4k range, but I have no way of knowing what the selling prices have been. What-say-you?

Dishonest seller what to do??

On this ad the seller is asking $3400 for a 2000 Kawasaki ninja 250. KBB is $1400. What can I legally do to warn first bike buyers?? Thanks in advance.

Don't' see the link, but let's assume it is a CL ad. You can post a CL reply ad, stating your advice. Seen that a few times, probably the best way to spread the word.

Maybe it's one of those limited edition models which justify the $2k price premium over book value. or maybe, just maybe, the bike won't sell

when has kbb ever been an accurate description of a bikes value?

and legality doesnt seem to have much of a bearing.. if its a CL ad, and you really dont like the post, then flag it for removal.

Let the buyer beware.

If I could sell a $1k bike for $3k, you can bet your ass I would!

(Eloy! Still want to buy my DRR650? Special today, only $5,500)!

Rick, I'm running a little short on cash these days... I'll give you $5499 for it.

PhiSig, we better wait for MamboDave to chime in. He knows what BMW's are worth.

My CultistTM suggestion is for yr pal to get a shitload more intel, especially if the bike is not local to him/her. Extra plastics means dick-- i'd demand stats and records to get a good read on how the bike has been used

The ad mentions a bent shifter lever, a blinker not working, and some clutch lever problem. Were me, i'd assume a crash/drop on left side happened

My only wrenching experience on the F650 thumper was Wontco's 96 Funduro (carb'd). At 9K his rear wheel bearings grenaded. He got it trailered to my shop and what i pulled out of the fubar'd hub was Russian manufacture bearings. Hub was toast, he had to get a used one off eBay. Wontco was 2nd owner, and the German guy he bought it from was dealer-anal about maintenance. Not impressed was this Cultist.

The Rotax motor is pretty stout if not abused, but a sub-3000$ F-GS might need a lot despite the low miles

I just want to drive up the resale values, f'course

why would you want to? if someone is dumb enough to pay that, then shouldn't you just let them redistribute their wealth? Maybe it's a widow selling who hasn't a clue... email them and ask them if you want to really get involoved. Give em a chance to make it right.

i dont see a prob with letting the market decide and staying out of it unless you know of a problem with the bike.

Thanks! The bike is not local, but it's not terribly far, about 6 hours.
