Selling my custom built Yamaha XT350/650 twin cylinder street legal enduro dual sport bike. Bike has a Yamaha XS650 motor in it, this is a "one-off" custom built bike, the only one in the US, it's a Beast !!! Clark oversize plastic tank, new enduro tires. It is very dirty in the pictures, just the way I put in the garage last May after riding it up in the TN mountains. Bike is 95% finished, but can use it as is. I saw a thing where Leno interview those guys. Seems like it's spendy for what you get, but you ain't gonna build a CR bike for much less.

Ya know, I thought it was a spendy kit too, but then I'm a KLR riding cheap bastard. The finished product sure looks good to my eyes tho

Last weekend was the first time I spent any time on a KLR in awhile. Wasn't bad, but you gotta do something about that lean surge.

Yeah ya know what, I've been putting up with that for a couple yrs now, ran out of ideas on what to do to solve it. 3 #4 washers under my needle brought the best results of everything I tried, but took my mileage down to the low 40's, entirely unacceptable. Just recently bought a used carb for $50 from an inmate here in the Flea Mkt; if that doesn't solve the problem I'm officially giving up on Trying To Fix It, and will just hafta Learn To Live With It. It is aggravating.

Did it do it before you modded the pipe? Could be that you just need a "quiet core" insert to get some more back pressure.

Seems to be working for you though as the odometer will attest.

First started doing it with the modded stocker, after running just fine with that setup for several K miles. Hot summer day, all of a sudden it just started surging, hadn't done any wrenching recently so no "smoking gun." Experimented w/a few different main jets, turned airscrew further in, turned it further out, cleaned pilot jet, checked diaphragm, tried a new choke screw, tried Seafoam, tried hi-octane, tried ethanol-free, eliminated vacuum diaphragm in the petcock with the Hurricane Mod, tried running with my fuel cap open, sprayed carb cleaner all around the intake boot to check for air leaks. The hotter ambient temp is, the worse the problem is. Choking it helps, but doesn't entirely eliminate the surging. Plug reads lean but not ridiculously so. Doesn't surge AT ALL above 5K RPM, that tells me it likes the main jet circuit. I'm about half-convinced it's a partial vapor lock, that would explain why it's worse in hot weather. Even the KLR gurus on the KLR boards are baffled. And that's sayin something.

Hasn't left me stranded tho, I gotta give it credit. Well yeah, there was that one time I needed Buzztail Machine & Tool to pick me up on a trailer, but that was entirely unrelated to this ongoing issue.

Supposedly the kit takes a good bit of weight off too, so that should boost it a tad. They also make Scrambler, Street Tracker, and hard tail bobber kits for the bike.

well I don't know anything about those kits - my friend (some of you know him as the jenkem baron) his gf has a savage and we significantly "chopped" it an it'll cruise at 80 all day with my skinny arse. also, its a pretty stout engine - she let the cam chain adjuster go til it actually fell into the chain, grinded around in there for a few hundred miles til she didnt hear it anymore, and the bastard still ran with a loose camchain and no tensioner.

I was impressed.

I remember that... I didn't turn it over 5k when I was on it because I didn't have any spare oil with me
