Spoons and an Irwin quick clamp on the far end to keep it in the channel.

No, i certainly do use the rods as fulcrum/pivot for dismount. I just don't use the top arm dealie that Adam does-- but you recall that his LT wheel demanded that top arm-- none of the GS, DR, DRZ, KLR, F650 wheels i've done on that stand ever needed the arm.
