Hi there, a quick introduction, I'm T-Rider, a KLE driver from the Netherlands. I Actually own an KLE from '93 for a year now, bought it with 15 k on the counter. Nice bike, owned a Honda 599 (hornet) before this one, this is a lot more fun :-). Had some things ajusted, as the brakes (not really great on the tarmac), now replaced it for some brakings with hell braking hoses, big improvement.

Now on the list is are different shocks and fork spring.

Great bike, light, smooth handling, big fun :-)

KLE in Belgium

Just a weekend trip to family

Correct. The weber twin uses the EX500 engine, same as the KLE and the GPZ500 (Well that's a multifunctional engine...). Also nice fact, the Italian Walter Surini entered the dakar rally with a KLE500 and ended of at the 20th position! The bike wasn't change much during the years, only minor adjustments made to fairings (top fairing is now a Kawasaki Z style) and some restrictions (engine power decreased from 50 to (I Tought) 45 bhp.

It's not available new in Australia anymore either. It was on sale in the version pictured from 2004ish to 2008, although imports stopped in 2007. I believe there may be one or two left unsold though, if you ask around!

It's the same motor as the ER5, which is also now no longer available new.

I was hoping this was what the Versys was going to be. It would have been an F800GS killer if it was. Ninety percent of the performance at half the cost.

My gf drove a 650gs at her driving lessons, but likes the feel of the KLE more. Allright, it is a 500, but since it's a twin, it will outclass a lot of single 650's (nx 650 style), and drive it into the mud and cruise on the highway (use it every day 60 km to school and back) without a problem...

It's really a nice little bike. Besides, you can easily take 4cm of padding out of the seat, quite useful for someone as short-legged as me.
140 km/h, even for quite some time, is no problem for the KLE, expect that it uses more fuel then (5.5 l/100 km instead of 4.8), but it gets a bit uncomfortable after some time.

Works fine offroad, too:

I cant seem to post pics of my bike so Ill keep trying. This bike easily sits on 140 km/h all day no probs...thats why I got it (although our speed limits in AUS are about 100-110 km/h.

Dont mind the gs800 comment - its actually my best mate trying to stir you guys up seems that it worked

I will post up all the cool links to stuff I have found on the kle soon. Mine will be very modified by the end of the year I reckon, and a simpson desert trip will be on the books soon with my gs800 mate.

Again, this is one hell of an under-estimated bike....and seeing as what Kawa have done with the latest klr650, that bike is a dog compared to what this bike has to offer (except fuel tank capacity ). But yes this beast is no longer made and the versy should not be even regarded as dirt capable.

More soon.....

The Kawi 500cc motor is a killer IMO and if that bike was available here, it would be the perfect beginner Adventure Rider & keep me from railing against the Wee as a starter machine
