A few extra pics added
Dan came through with some photo shots that Don and Dad didn't have, so I went back in the report and added a few more pics. See if you can pick them out if you have the time. I am working on the other stuff now. We are headed for Forest Gump Hill.

Mexican hat
There was some kind of big UTV rally in Moab for the weekend, so Dad and the others got throwed out of town (no rooms). Dad and Don decided to head South to Mexican Hat. Dad wanted to see the rocks. Don wanted to eat at the Swinging Steak.
First was Mexican Hat. Note that Don's head is too big for his hat. ![]() ![]() Next was Goulding's Resturant, which looks out on Monument Valley. The food and service there was super, but not as good as the views out the window. ![]() Then we took a ride up the Moki Dugway. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We went out late to Monument Valley hoping to get some good sunset pictures. Three Sisters ![]() The Mittens ![]() Who cares? ![]() Suzuki ![]() We were cheated by the clouds. ![]() But Don still tried some artsy fartsy stuff. ![]() Finally, we had supper at the Swinging Steak. The band wasn't very good, the place ain't cheap or fancy, but the atmosphere and the food was top notch. Here is the watch dog hiding in the planter out front. ![]() I guess this is a Southern (Utah) band. ![]() Dad was very comfortable. ![]() We kept an eye on the cook. ![]() 18oz. Ribeye - ummmm good. Dad said that since he was on a diet, he didn't eat the salad. ![]() The meal and entertainment made for a perfect end to a wonderful trip. We are going to have to do this again!!!

SYP Road
That strech of road going is very scary under the right/wrong circumstances. Last march we rode ATVs at Goblin Valley and decided to go down to AZ to ride the Yuma dunes and thought this would be a shortcut. I had a big F250 with 4 atvs and gear on a 20ft flat bed trailer and it was very dark and I did not know what we were in for. When you hit the brakes, the gravel breaks loose sometimes and you feel like you are going to go over the edge. No brakes on the trailer made it push us a little for extra effect. I think I averaged 2.2 mph down this stretch. If you come through when there is snow and ice... Nightmare...it's 2000 ft down in some places. Straight down. SYP stands for S*&T YOUR PANTS!

The Rest of the Story
That is the end of the official ride report. We have a bunch more pics that did not fit into the story. Here are three from the Lockhart Basin Trail that are landscape views. It is a big country out there!!!

I have done a lot of those same trails in my 4 WD truck.
Never even entertained the idea of doing them on my bike. Guess I'm going to have to plan on taking it next time I go. Great pictures, I never remember to use my camera when I go. Well, hardly ever. Most of the time Im trying to climb the nexT big rock. Don and I will be doing the TAT in September! No snow there for him to fall down in! LOOKS LIKE FUN!

Andy awesome report! A perfect mix of photos, with some humor and sarcasm! Your dad looks happy! I think the old BMW rider is pretty cool!
I save some of your photos, hope you don't mind! Pat McGhie turned me on to your report. Cheers. |
