The good news was that we made it.

For the last several hours coming into Edinburg, TX the ol' Bird wouldn't run over about 55 mph, and by the time that we pulled into the Flying J I was cruising along at 51 mph with the throttle pressed to the floor.

Swapping the fuel filters the next morning solved that problem.

We ran into a swarm of butterflies on the way down and, sure enough, while we were in the Flying J the generator overheated and puked coolant all over the parking lot. So we had to let her cool and then she restarted.

The next day after I changed the fuel filters on the Big Engine (and added quite a bit of stuff to inhibit the growth of nasties in diesel that sits for months at a time) the generator wouldn't start. To my knowledge there is no connection between the fuel filters on the Detroit and the fuel supply to the Perkins on the generator, but for whatever reason the generator was slow to start.

After that she started and ran just fine for several days. Go figure.

As we were getting off of I-37 we ran into this, which would make a great bus conversion. Notice that the driver sits down low, like in a Neoplan Spaceliner, and the passengers are on the deck above the driver. The driver has a sleeper compartment and the rest of the lower portion of the bus is devoted to baggage space.

Glad you got moved ok .... but really .... I'm not sure that is such a swift move .......... trying to swipe the keys

Damn ... I didn't notice they were in there!

The bus was full of legal Mexican workers coming back from Georgia. I don't know who would have been madder if I drove off with their bus, them or my girlfriend.

So they want $18900?

Seems likely but look at the way it's written and the new features they advertise.

Hey nwgs, or "nooges" as I pronounce it; why not indulge both of your interests??

And this one would be my ideal RV. At least at this moment.

There's a tag-axle Airstream motorhome for sale down the street. Makes me want to go take a look at what he's asking. Maybe it's one of four or five and a risk-free investment.

Hmmm...I seriously think I know where one is. I won't find it in the dark, but I know where I saw it...about 8 miles away. I had no idea the big one was that rare. Time to go hunting.

Well if you find it, just give 'em 200K and call it done. I mean after all, it's risk free, right?

A quick search shows them changing hands in the $20-60K range, depending on condition and upgrades. We know that guy is crazy, but that is a really nice rig.

Honestly, the biggest consideration (for me) buying one of those is the year. Anything after 1975 has to be smogged every other year in California, and you're restricted from sensible engine mods like fuel injection or more efficient cams. My 1973 Revcon is exempt from that nonsense. It would have to be an awfully good deal for me to consider moving to a different coach.

That isn't going to keep me from going to find it.

You would be correct. But it has since been repaired and has been moved to a different part of their lot. So, seems like she is driveable and has on all 8 tires.

Nice, but...for 125K I could get a nice used pusher, a box trailer full of bikes, and still have enough money left to go on the road for a few years.
