New 800gs - squeaky brakes
Hey gang,
This is my first new bike, just picked her up last weekend and have about 200km on her. The brakes are pretty squeaky (front and back), is this normal because they're new? Is it from powder residue? Dealer told me to just brake hard, but I still find this a little strange, I've had new brakes on previous bikes and never had this problem. Sorry if the question has been covered but I didn't find anything on the topic. Cheers! |

I have the same issue on mine with 2200 miles, unless I brake hard. Sorry, don't know the exact cause or fix for it.

Yes, Seriously.
Mine just has a slight squeakiness to it. Nothing that I am too concerned about. Braking action is still what it's supposed to be. This bike is no different than several cars that I've owned or driven. Most of those have been fixed by new, higher quality brake pads. I'm not to the point of doing that yet. It's been a while since I checked them, but they were fine then. Granted, I'm no mechanic so there may be a problem. I'm actually more concerned with the "play" in the floating calipers. And by concern I mean that I am aware of it, not overly concerned. I didn't have the dealer check anything because it became more pronounced sometime after the 600 mile service.

Mine does it too, has since day one and still does with 2500km on it.
As does my wife's 08 F650 with 7000km on it. Think its just how these floating caliper brakes are. Not sure if there is anything we can really do, ive tinkered with them a few times and just changed the squeak, never managed to get rid of it. |

Squeaky
Your thread title should read
"800 GS brake squeak...don't buy one!!" Mine squeak a little. I guess I just never cared. Didn't think to mention it to the dealer. Maybe I don't notice it so much since I ride with plugs.
