I had a great time on this ride. I took off from Burtonsville, md at 7:30, and made it to Point of Rocks by 8:30. Using my new 276c gps , I squirmed my way to the meet point in Frederick, md. Waiting at the parking lot Usroadscholar and Glockenspiel. Usroadscholar sporting the new silver fz6, and Glockenspiel riding a shiny 1150gs. .

CLockenspiel and Usroadscholar(below)

Cityclip, arrived. Giving me the Advrider salute.

Xsquiggy arrived on his dl650 in time to see Cityclip tumble with the bike. Just a broken blinker. Once the 1200gs starting tipping over, just let it go.

Picking up the beast was easy. Not as heavy as the 1150's. And It was suprisingly easy to pick up. Not a chore as most people think. The 1200's was svelte unlike the 1150. Its a totally different beast.

Cityclip falls with the gs

We had breakfast, and talked where we were going. I guess it was settled that I was leading. We pretty much agreed that going north was neat. And that is what we did for the most part.

Usroadscholar departed right away. He has a thing with me leading rides. He does not like me style

We went into Grambrill park, its a neat short place kinda like the skyline drive. But short and ugly. . I know a few gravels roads around that area, but I had planned to just take regular roads because Usroadscholar would probably ride with us. But needless to say, we ended up doing tarmac most of the day. With a few exceptions.

I learned that giving it a handfull of throttle in gravel with sport tires, makes really cool sounds. Biker boyz producers would have been proud of me.

We made it to Highrock. High rock is a place near Fort Richey north of thurmont, where hang gliders jump off. First time I was there, and the vista was incredible.

Hanggliders jump off of here. There are places in town where you can get lessons. I wish there was someone hang gliding. Id like to strap my bike to the gliders and just go.

I was tempted to push him

After Glock left us, we made our way south slowly. As you can see from the route, it wasnt not a direct route.

We exchanged bikes for a bit. It was nice to ride a 1200gs, the bike was incredible. Way better than the 1150gs. It felt like the 650. Handled incredibly. And after picking it up a few times, i could tell it was really lighter than the 1150. The 1200, really had alot of power. And the power came on very easily. It had a little bit of vibration, but crusing around you could not really tell. The vstrom on the other hand is totally smooth, it feels like an electric bike. The Speed triple is a beast , . Unfortuanly I did not get to test it out off road. Probably next time.

the 1200gs wheelied pretty well. I didnt try it, so I wouldnt know.

On our way south, we found a small mx park. Where we promptly let loose. Vstroms and 1200gs, are not exactly motocrossers. But they get the job done.

Cityclip was hot rodding it when he dropped the bike doing a triple over some jumps on the mx course.

Incredibly, the only damage was the front blinker. And the cylinder fried some virgin grass.

The gravel roads were pretty fun. Specially with sport tires. All the riders rode really well. A good pace.

On the way home, after xsquiggy left near point of rocks. I was behind a minivan, and she started to wipe the windshield and squirting at me. So I pass, as I pass she gives me the finger. What up with that.

I wonder if I rode in the company of Glockenspiel on the Toll Road last week. We were headed west, me riding a black GS and wearing blue jacket and yellow helmet. I exited the Greenway at Loudoun County Parkway, you kept going.

THat was the first time I was in High rock. I just heard about the place, but wanted to see it. Pretty nice up there. Any other interesting vistas around there?

The offroad is off of 351 in maryland, near point of rocks. Its a little mx place on a farm. I think you need permission, since its private property, but a quick lap never hurt anyone.

I used to ride an HD with drag pipes. Slow, no brakes, didn't handle for shit, but I loved being able to hit the kill switch, crank the throttle open for a couple of seconds, and then flip the kill switch back to 'run'. The mother of all backfires tends to teach people not to fuck with people on HDs.

Yeah. I was wondering who that was. I'm one more exit down the road off Claiborne Parkway. Maybe we'll run into each other again. Good to see your bike is alive and running well after your headaches with multiple dealers. Thanks.

I sometimes exit there too. But I usually take Loudoun County Pkwy to get my daily gravel fix.

Thanks for the report Scorch. Nice maps ROCKIN GPS and thanks for the swap with the Speed Triple. Awesome torque, sweet exhaust note.

One of the highlights of dropping the 12 was the brilliant front blinker fix. Man, that thing just pops off when it gets hit. Then with a few turns of the screw you pull out the lens and the reflector thingy, plunge it back into the stem and back on. Way cool. Like it was designed to pop off in a fall. Good as new.
