Lunch at the Hot Spot
This past weekend Annie and I along with our friend Rikki made a run to the Hot Spot Cafe for lunch. The Hot Spot is on the Dalton Highway about 5 miles north of the Yukon River.
The day began with assembly at the Hilltop Cafe at mile 5 of the Elliot Highway. ![]() The owner of this bike was up from Oregon and after a hearty breakfast he was headed to Coldfoot. He's one of the earlier arrivals from the lower 48. ![]() It was not long before we had to take off some insulation... temps were in the 70s. ![]() A stop at the start of the Dalton to lower our air pressures. ![]() Some scenes along the ride: ![]() ![]() There are markers to those who died on the highway in many places. This appears to be one of the older ones: ![]() ![]() The Yukon River and bridge: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A quick pit stop at the restaurant at the river. ![]() The Hot Spot Cafe: ![]() Service is contingent on approval of the official greeter..... ![]() Use of the facilities comes with some risk. ![]() Good food, good company, great ride... ![]() We met these local fellows while airing up our tires at the Elliot intersection. The man on the right homesteads on the Tolavana River and encouraged us to go to Manley Hot Springs for the 4th of July... says they have beer. Just might take him up on that advice. ![]() And finally the clean-up... not bad for a haul road ride.

Bad news, the rider from Oregon (Jon Just4fun2 ) crashed his bike just south of Dawson City and dropped his bike of where I work in Whitehorse today. He is flying home tomorrow with a broken arm (left) and a sprained wrist (right). He was in good spirits though. He said that the trip had been good and was now just looking forward to gettin home.

That is bad news, but at least it sounds like he'll make a full recovery.
