Which Kaoko with HDB guards?

Does anybody know if the standard Kaoko control for the F800GS works with the standard HDB setup for F800GS?

Contact Paul over at HDB, he'll likely know which to get.

yep

... I like the Kaoko. Don't know if it will work with HDB, mine are barkbusters, but I really like the Kaoko, I don't use it a lot but it's nice to relax the grip from time to time. I used to have a crampbuster but it could get scary offroad - this is waaay better.

hope it works out for you.

He told me to get the thinnest ones they make. That is all. Never did get the bars though.

might not work

here's a shot of Chitown's most excellent F800 (full credit to Chitown!!) with HDB bars:

and a crop of the same shot:

if you compare this to my bike shot in post #7 above I don't think there's any way you could squeeze a Kaoko in there between the grip and the HDB bar.

The barkbusters come with an extension that replaces the bar-end weight leaving plenty of room for the rotating knob and the thrust washer at the end of the grip.

True, but remember Chitown is not using the OEM bars on his new hotrod.

The HDB setup for the F800GS that Paul shipped me included bar-ends that are much more narrow than the OEM.

In this pic you'll see my HDB guards and bar-end weights installed. I'm holding the OEM bar-end weight above for comparison.

I've just e-mailed Paul and will report as soon as I hear back.

HDB actually makes several different widths; the ones Chitown has are the thinnest that work with the 800GS. A wider set would have enough room, the question is just which ones give the RIGHT amount of room.

All he said in an email was to get the thinnest Kaoko that they make. No sizes just that statement.

HDB long guards for f800gs

Here is some info. from my email conversation with Paul when I made the HDB purchase -

" The top clamp for a F800GS is 98x38/40mm, but the 800 kit comes with longer guards and new bar end weights, and uses the stock 12mm bar end bolts. If you go with new bars I can install the standard threaded inserts and other bar end weights, or shorter guards and no weights or the internal Anti-Vibe inserts, but I'd need to know.
Thanks, Paul "

I went with the longer guards and new bar. There will be room when I go with the Kaoko. You will have the ability to move the guard in/out with the connector at the front of the top clamp. Here is picture..
btw. Oury grips are pulled over the original grips and heat works just not as instant or as hot.

In this picture you can see the slight adjustment you will have with the long guard -
