The new functioning hospital is River Region on Highway 61 north.

Are you referring to the Mercy Hospital. Its vacant, with a fence around it, but the area around it is not too bad. My step mom and sister live in the area and although I wouldn't go in it at night, its probably ok to go to during the day.
According to the internets, The Mercy Hospital and the Kuhn Memorial Hospital are one in the same.

If that's the case, then the hospital is fenced all the way around, not in use that I'm aware of, but the area around it is not that bad. There are a few shotgun houses adjacent to the south, but the neighborhood to the north is a fairly decent neighborhood. Again, I would not go in it at night, but during the day you shouldn't have a problem. The chemical dependency unit is on top of the hill to the north of the hospital and the Street Clinic is to the east and both are operational.

Nope. Kuhn was a charity hospital and is a few blocks from the old court house. Mercy is a mile or so east of it, one block off Clay St.

Yeah, now I know where it is. Uhhh...I definitely wouldn't go venture in there much after sunset. That's a real sketchy part of town. During the day, you might get some "curious" folks wander up to you. Definitely go in a group. Good Luck!

Here's the location on google maps.

It don't look terribly visitor friendly lol. I'm laughing at the wannabe thug walking down the street in street view.

Anybody know anything about the kuhn Memorial Hospital? Anybody happen to know the owner? General Safety of the area (should I go in a group, should I pack heat?) I'm looking to do a little urbex photoggin there, and thought I'd check with the few folks I know from that area.
I'd be interested in tagging alone and doing a little shooting myself. I think someone is filming an extremely low budget film there currently.

Is this the hospital you're talking about? best picture I could find of the one where they are filming this "movie".

Edit: Found another pic, comparing to GoogleMaps Street view I'm pretty sure it's the same.

Oops. My feeble brain confused Mercy and Charity.

As you were.

Yah that's the one. Someone else had mentioned to me that someone was filming there, and paranormal groups frequent it, but I've yet to find someone who can tell me how to get permission to be there.

I'll ask one of the guys that's filming there, he's in a band called Candybone and somehow got involved with the film crew. I work with him at BadgePass. I've been out all week with bacterial meningitis, but hopefully I can go back to work tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out.

FTI (For Those Interested) ...

Headed out on another adventure this morning, but on 4 wheels instead of 2...

Did a similar trip 2 years ago, so I am just tacking this onto the RR from that trip, which I put in inmates section since I am on 4 wheels... you can finnd the 2012 trip report with 2014 tacked on here : http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=808743

Practice weekend at Talladega

Last weekend went over for a two day practice in advance of my race weekend there next month. Got in some good hot laps literally. Hottest weather so far this year.

Our pit stall for the weekend. Finally got a spot on pavement at Dega.

Typical 1000 doing the business at little Talladega. Yea I'm saving the front tire. Speaking of tires it went through two rears on the weekend in 116 miles which equals roughly 89 laps. That is actually considered good tire wear.

Monday I woke up with my usual wrist pains. Left wrist is scheduled to have a plate and 8 screws removed sept 5th. That wrist was not the problem this time it's my right wrist which swole up from the severe arthritis that's presently in it on the distal row bones. It's still swole up today. Can't move my hand upward at all. Hate to say it but my wrist are ruined due to years of extreme motorcycle riding. My doctor told me back in may I had really bad things happening in my right wrist. The left one looks pretty good minus the plate in it. I'm sure it will get worse with age especially with the present scar tissue in it from the plate and screws.

Other than all that chit I had a good weekend. I have 3 weeks to get this wrist well only to have it to it again most likely after the race weekend. Probably will seek some form of treatment in the short off season for the arthritis in my right wrist.

Glad you can still ride like that Roy. Arthritis is a bitch.
