Sounds like you may have nicked the ceramic water pump seal. OUCH!

Decent price if you do need one:

Give you the fat and carbs needed to survive, you can eat them or use them to start a fire. True survival food.

ok peoplez. I road the old XL Saturday afternoon out to check on the MS tag. well it got HOT and it still knocked a little but it was under some harder acceleration. here's my question. the stock needle is shorter by a good half an inch then the XR400 needle that I put in it. so at wid open I think there's still needle in the jet. my thinking now is what if i cut the needle down to closer to stock length.

what do yall think

That's what I'm worried about at this point Because the stock needle comes comeplity out of the jet at WOT but the 400 needle doesn't. so if I trim it down i will actually richen it up at WOT.

Mark at Cycle Service in Pearl should be able to fix it if you'll take it to him. Otherwise, get a jet kit with the proper stuff in it. Baja Designs should have what you need.

i don't trust shops. I do all my own wrenching. I'll look into a jet kit. but there's no a lot offered for a 82 XL500r. it's the only year that a lot of things where used from what I've found.

anyway I got the Cans mounted today.

check it out.

4 bolts and they come off. and totle it coust me 115 bucks bought and mounted.

I've talked to him a couple of times. The trip is going good except for a speeding ticket.
