BTW, Onward Store has been refurbished and is back open. New owners though so I'm not sure if the tamales are the same.

I, for one, didn't have that experience. Have you ever eaten there?

I had no ill effects. I just remember how good that steaming plate of tamales was after freezing our asses off for the last few hours .

Also, you have to remember MartiniUp is from Tejas. Mississippi tamales will always just be wrong to him. My wife, a native Texan, won't touch a Mississippi tamale with a ten foot pole

Yup. That sure made it 10 times better , they were awesome.

To tell you the truth, I love tamales, but haven't found any around here, other than Onward's store, that come close to satisfying.
Fat Mama's suck wind by comparison..
This thread is making me hungry.

Onward and the BBQ place on 471 have the best I've found around Jackson. I may have to go eat a plate tonight...

Yep. You can get them covered in chili, cheese, and onions and are pretty good, in my opinion. YMMV...

Try the Tamale Place or Solly's next time you visit Vicksburg.
