Start about two pages back.

I started a thread that is for motorcycle talk. Of course, this thread is just for bs'ing anyway, so I suppose the past couple of pages fit that bill. Carry on.

He DQ, thanks for taking care of that car pic in the Saturday Breakfast thread.

I have a question for everyone. Why is it that my coffee pot is making bitter coffee? I know that I can drink coffee from somewhere else and it usually tastes good, but mine tastes like ass. Any thoughts?

Are you using old underwear for a filter? :-)

You may not be making it strong enough. When you don't use enough coffee you only extract the "bitters". I was guilty of this until I saw Alton Brown's show Good Eats about coffee.

Also, water temperature plays a big role in bitterness. Is it boiling lava hot? If it's a coffee maker that has adjustable heat, try turning it down a few notches.

This morning I way over did it with the amount of coffee. Very strong, but still bitter. Not good.

Hey mang! Sorry I didn't respond to your text the other night. I was right in the middle of cooking and forgot to reply! I'll call you sometime this week.

Yes, the coffee pot probably needs to be cleaned.

I read about that this morning. This makes sense because when we pressed coffee for a couple of years (because the coffee pot coffee was yucky) it still seemed bitter to me and I realized we always boiled the water before pouring into the press. I checked the brewer this morning and it's already on the lowest setting, so maybe I'll look around for something I can control. Apparently, one shouldn't brew coffee more than about 204 degrees fahrenheit.

True that. When I was doing the aeropress thing, I set my electric tea kettle (don't laugh!) to 185 degrees with a meat thermometer.

Since we're on the subject, and you obviously take you coffee seriously enough to ask about it, here's my setup.

It makes a damn good pot of coffee

I don't know much about coffee either but if the cleaning and temp change doesn't work maybe try a different brand of coffee?
