The next day...

We spent the night at "The Snow Leopard Hotel", nice place currently under expansion. CJ and I spent a while checking out the stars, watching satelites zoom by - yes you can see satelites at these altitudes.

We took the right leg of the split, out past the hot springs - continuing on until... uh-oh.

This is a picture of some ADV riders in a restricted military zone... unintentionally of course.

We got turned around and hit the gas before a big green truck picked us up.

Rough Riders!!!! Road to Chang La

This was the hardest road to get through. Lots of water crossings, steep transitions, loose surfaces, some very technical sections.

Let's check in with the boys!!!!

Sharad takes his Enfield to 17,000 feet!!!!!!

CJ checking the list off.

Your author - next up...

I can collect them, shipping is the issue. International Postal rates get impressive when the weight goes up ... we'll sort some course of action later, collection can continue though.

I work in Mooresville if yer not too far away for drop off. See you soon either way - and THANKS!

Holy Schmoly! Himalayas! 18,000 feet!

These are fantastic pics, guys. What camera are you using? My pics are not as fine as these. I need to get a better camera.

Right now, I am at a BMW rally in Colorado on my vaycay. I am sitting with Peter, an Australian traveller who plans on gong to Mongolia soon. He's already done the Patagonia to the Artic Circle this time around. He's getting charged up by looking at your photos!

Fantastic!

Super!

Appologies for the delay, I'm a workin' man.

So we made it to Pangong Tso, after crossing Chang La and some of the roughest roads of the trip. We tried a rough road to the campsite, too many to chose from here. Found our way to the site and set up our accomodations;

Cool2 Great way to spend a day,

at one of the world's highest lakes.

Our room for the evening...

What's a camp without a campfire? CJ and Sharad gathered some wood (at the distress of our hostess) and we lit up the beach.

Our man Sharad sleeping in a bit...

Laugh To continue our journey, back across the mountain we go.

Did I mention how rough Chang La was? Some of the hardest riding yet. Chanderjeet stopped and took this amazing shot;

Wink We got back to Leh for our last night.

We got the bikes serviced (again), had a good meal, rested up a bit, readied ourselves for the ride into Kashmir. On the way we plan to visit the Aryan Village, an ancient culture secluded in the mountains.
Let's hit the road!!!!

Some great roads, but most bridges are single track. When the Army has to tow a truck, we have to wait.

Great valley roads, following the river along the way...

Permit required to go this far,

good thing our hotel manager took care of that for us.

We arrived at the Army checkpoint into Kashmir, the guards told us how to get up to the village. We parked the bikes and climbed up the path. Passing fields of grain, livestock pens, and the curious youngsters, we worked our way to the school house on the other end.

Kargil, Kashmir

The ride into Kargil was one of the most dangerous I've ever been on. My bike had begun to slowly give up, a long process that had just decided to get worse. The lights gave out, leaving me blind in the dark. For those following this report, it was this part of the ride that Sharad stayed with me to ride into Kargil. We crossed a mountain pass in the dark, his headlight guiding us safely to the city. I will always be in debt to him, the mountain was as dangerous as anything we had ridden, he stuck with me - thanks Bro'.

We found a place to stay and park the bikes. They let us keep them inside the lobby for security.

Enroute to Srinigar, Chanderjeet got a tiny piece of metal in his tire. Just enough to puncture the tube.
