We spent the better part of the day here.

Watching the street outside the shop was an experience all it's own. Busy town this Delhi, constant coming and going.

I wonder how many Adventures this bike has had... workhorse? messenger? family transport? it waits in silence to be part of another story.

The following day, the ride began.

We planned on an early start, but as plans go... we started well after sun-up. The road out of Delhi is like any other city, busy and hot this time of year. We got spread out a bit so Chris went in search of Sharad while I took this shot of my stead loaded up.

We pushed as far as we could, Minali was still quite a way so we stopped. The place is called "Rock-n-River Hotel". On the way, however, I learned a lesson about overrtaking. Missed a pass and diverted to the right, sideswiping a car - bent the brake lever, scared the crap outa me!

Road to Minali, fast and furious!

The twisting hills, the trucks chugging along, a trial by fire for sure. We stopped on the way for some lunch. Great little road side cafe.

Our friend Sharad enjoying the break.

The destination isn't the point,

...it's the journey.

The place to get fuel is the Indian Oil stations. Our rides after filling up.

This is one tired rider. The Enfield is a tough bike to ride over long distances. My left hand was so worn from pulling the clutch I could barely move my fingers.

The view from our "Rockin'" hotel room.

Thems is mountains!!!

"We're gonna ride some passes." Chanderjeet tells me, but getting to those passes wasn't what I expected. Some of the best tarmak roads and some of the worst dirt/rock roads I've ever seen. That is what makes this ride so difficult.

This was the first pass out of Minali - I stalled the bike, Sharad helpin' a brotha out;

Pushing to the top.

Here's more shots of those mountain side roads.

Sharad keeps moving;

Chanderjeet taking in the scenery a bit;

Traffic jams are common on the tight pass roads. We caught a few, this is usually how we delt with them;

Laugh After the incident with the car...

Chanderjeet offered some Nirvanna to help calm my nerves and focus for the ride ahead;

We rode out and found a shop to get the Green Monsters' brake pedal repaired. Sharad looks on, checking his bikes' load during the break.

Atop a 15,000ft mountain pass,

the view from Chris' 5oo Bullet.

We got around the "tourist" area and headed down the other side of the pass. Snowy at the top, cagers come up to ride sleds and throw snowballs. Cold wasn't really a concern, not that low as far as temps go - maybe 30's farenheit.

Mountain top eatery. they do a good business, but they nearly DOUBLED the normal price for a meal.

Just finished with lunch, getting ready for the the drop to Pak.

The snow melt makes things interesting, watercrossings are common on these routes. Sharad pushing H2O;

Baralacha La - the Aussie's warning!!!!

We were climbing and came across an Australian fellow coming down from the top. He warned us of an avalanche at the top that blocked the road. "Don't go up there, if it falls again you're stuck for the night!" We waited a short while and proceded up. It had started to snow and got cold as it does at the top. We found a traffic backup and some Russian riders as well. One of them found some black ice and dropped his bike. Sharad helped him right his Enfield just as we started down the other side.

At the top, getting snowed on;

Sharad at our stop on the other side;

Images of Ladakh

Our friend Chanderjeet - self portrait.

Break on an open plain, ancient sedimentary plains like this offer great views.

View from a climb. This is how many of the passes reach up the mountain sides;
