Thanks to all, Grandma Hester is at rest.

An amazing woman, raised during the depression, mother to 7 sons, Great-Great Grandmother when she passed on. An example of strength and determination to us all.

Onward to Leh!!!!

As we left our intrepid travelers, they were climbing higher and higher .

Chanderjeet's bike decided to pose... after a rock wedged itself in the front fender.

Not long after, CJ had to "adjust" the right foot peg. Some zipties, some tape, and a nice flat rock later - roadside repair. Sharad taking a close look, I'm helping - really;

Thumb Mountain Riders heading to Leh

We had ridden some of the highest roads in the world, over some of the roughest roads to take a bike. The Royal Enfields covered the terrain and carried use skyward;

Take a CLOSE look at the passes covered. Pike's Peak in the US is 14k and change... we bested that this day. Chanderjeet, Sharad, and SgtMike riding on to Leh!

Our time was gettting short

Due to snow covered roads, my troubles with my bike (stalling/starting, overloaded), traffic of tourists and Tata trucks!
We decided to stay in Pak, just on the other side of the previous pics. What I didn't know, our little "hotel" was at 15,000ft elevation!!!!
Great noodle soup dinner, lots of water, and a warm carpet to sleep on - sounds great to me!!!!
Aside from tingling in my hands and some shortness of breath while trying to sleep, the altitude didn't bother me. Chanderjeet had been kind enough to get some Diamox, it worked. Sharad did suffer some nausea, he had been working hard on the bikes and helped a Russian rider pick up his bike at altitude earlier.

Our camp for the night;

Images from Ladahk

Some random shots on the route.

The Indian Army and Police force are the lifeline of the region. They build and maintain the roads, provide security and emergency services to the region. These are true national heroes and deserve all the respect coming to them.

Sharad getting some inner peace. These temples are numerous and well maintained.

TaTa - or the BIG FREAKIN TRUCK!!!!

These guys have somewhere to be and we're in the way! There's nothing like passing or getting passed by these on a mountain road;

The road builders at work. Slight detour, new section to open soon - great job fellas!

Some of the best spots are just off the road. Chanderjeets' 500 Bullet taking a break;

Bikers for Books 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chanderjeet started with some books on a previous trip, giving them to a recognised school in Leh. With such a great reception and response, he was determined to return again.

Upon arrival a student asked "Are you from ADV?"

The school educates the children with integrity and hard work. The teachers know how important education is and keep close watch on the kids.
Here's some of the scenes, I'll let them tell the story...

Laugh Chanderjeet, the man behind the camera.

Chris, CJ, Chanderjeet, my Brotha... no matter what ya call him, he's a great guy and a caring/giving person. The School Captain (the older boy in the pics) remembered his last visit and wouldn't stop calling him "Sir". It fits.

Laugh Awesome Guys

Mike,
glad to see you guys made it to the school - the kids look delighted and you know its just right when they ask if you're from ADV.

My hat is off to you for taking this trip and making a difference

Mike, CJ & Sharad,

Great report and pictures. I especially like the pics of the kids. I think that's what I enjoy most about traveling in foreign countries - the kids. They really enjoy it if you show up on a motorcycle and wuth a digital camera.

Thanks for taking me along.
