It's ashame that I've never been to Grand Canyon. My Wife has been with her friends but me, never. Been all around it going to and from but never there. Looks to be an awesome trip.

Phoenix to Hoover Dam
It's gonna be a long day, so I get an early start. I don't get 3 blocks from the house before I see the need to pull out the camera. What's the saying? "Red sky by night, Sailor's Delight... Red sky by morn, Sailor's be WARNED!"
![]() ![]() Joshua Trees and Threatening Skies ![]() ![]() I does rain for awhile, but it keeps me cool. The clouds hang around and chase after me the rest of the day. To the right is the new road that will take you to the new bridge over Hoover Dam. Don't go around the barricades yet... ![]() Because the bridge isn't done. Maybe someone should build a ramp and jump the gap? ![]() ![]()

Lake Mead to Mesquite Nevada
I hate the look of the cheap red farkle strapped to the back, but it was neccesary for the upcoming remote country.
![]() I ride around the west end of Lake Mead in a beautiful desert landscape... ![]() ...with nice sweepers... ![]() ![]() ![]() ...and the occasional view of the lake. ![]() I top up all of the fuel tanks in Mesquite then head out of civilization on Elbow Canyon Road. The gravel road turns back to asphalt at the state line. ![]() ...but pretty quickly I head for the hills.

Elbow Canyon Road
It starts easy enough, but with a couple dire warnings.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One last look back towards civilization. ![]() ![]() ![]() The loose rocky climbs begin.

Long Climb
The long, steep, rocky, and loose climb was exhausting. It was difficult finding traction with the rear tire and I had a tip-over.
![]() ![]() The scenery was nice. ![]() ![]() After topping out at the pass I entered the Grand Canyon Parashant NM where the roads improved greatly. ![]() I've heard these roads get pretty muddy when wet. The skies are still threatening nearby. ![]()

The following photo will determine what type of rider you are;
![]() If you are the type of rider in touch with your feminine side you saw pretty blue flowers. If you are tired of the desert you saw lush greenery. If you are a crusty old dirt rider you probably noticed the soil composition. If you ride a KTM you probably noticed the pretty orange flower.
