You guys are going to have a blast! Make sure to post a few pics of the bikes in the trailer or truck, am curious as to your setup! Is Lappeman joining you? Did not see an explanation for his "kick to the nuts" comment he made.

Hey calan818, short story...I quit a job for a better job and then after 3 weeks, they canceled the work and laid me and a bunch of workers off including the foreman...ass#oles! Anyway, figured I could cool off in Moab Hopefully not cool off to the point of some of BackRoaders photos of that white stuff

Cool shots guys! Hope to experience some of that soon You can see the water wear line were the rock is smooth...looks like water runs out of there when it rains?

Has anyone been to Antelope Canyon down by Page, Arizona? That it some of the wildest pink and purple smooth rock that I've ever seen! It's 40' deep in someplaces and apparently the water fills it completely after a rain storm.

There is so much to see in Moab, so, let's go there...... The La Sal Mountain Loop Road...

A steady climb to 6000 plus feet.... (the begining of the snow line)

way short of the top, however the temps were dropping like a rock.... +1C

Mark decided to warm his toes, or maybe it was a traditional dance to bring the sun out....

It was cool ride back down to Castle Valley.

Amazingly enough, Mark's dance worked...a patch of sun light hit a spot which seem to present a great photo opp.

It's very difficult to make miles in the Moab area... every 500 feet another great photo needs to be taken.

A heavy fuel burn day on the KLR was 2.5 US gal.s

Weather conditions change quickly, the scenery just seems to hget better each day...

A dry sandy area can become trecherous .....

Quote : Isplat2, "that shit was slicker than eel snot"

A snow squall coming in on the mountain.

The views are spectacular... Mark likes to stand toooooo close to the edge for my comfort

Hey BackRoader, almost every shot of yours has that white stuff in it...I'm getting worried

Here's the real La Sal Loop...if you guys had made it to the top and come back over to Moab side, you would have been greeted by this, only you would've been going downhill. This is very much like the Colorado passes.

Going up from Moab side

Nice pics Greg. This pic... of "Castle Valley" is so amazing that I saved it. I'll get there hopefully one day. Am in the process of buying a little trailer for the KLR hack... want to get some post retirement exploring in like you guys. Am thinking of an Alberta foothills tour next summer.

Really really really going to want that 685 kit in before you do that ride.

Oh yeah!

Re 685 kit, yup, gotta get moving on that. Think I should get the cylinder powder coated before or after boring/honing/fitting the piston?

Speaking of (ahem) upgrading the engine a bit, check out this mucho hopped up KLR FS in Calgary:
http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ422924372

I recommended to my buddy in Edmonton (who is looking for a dualsport) to snap this up. The heads already done too for Christ's sake! ... and by the late great KLRCary himself! How cool is that! One serious looking KLR IMO.

up coming adventures

I'd like to ride Big Bend National Park in southern Texas sometime in February. Pretty flexible on time and length of adventure.
2 or 3 days to van down there then a week or 2 to explore, then start heading back.
I'd take my van with room for a 2nd dualsport.
I know it's a long way off but thought I'd post now just to see if there is a possibility of it showing up on anyone's future radar. Texas hill country has been a winter favourite of mine for a while now but have never made it to Big Bend yet. Lots of people say it's great. Could be just the thing for Jing..... I'll have to let the memory of Moab simmer down a bit before really planning for this. A Christmas/NewYears ride is being planned with Carla now and we could be renting out of Vegas or Miami for a little 2 wheel winter relief.

Moab 7 days and counting.................

Thanks for thinking of me, Mark. Any multiday trip will be out of question for me until next summer except the christmas time. I'm seriously thinking a trip down south, but I have to figure out the budget first, then time. Just checked air ticket to Miami, which is just under $800 round trip, plus hotel and bike rental, i guess it'll be somewhere close to 2 grand, it's an expensive holiday for me.
