Nice photos... Good job on the write up, short and to the point!

Technically it's 2.5, but the point 5 took 6300 KM to get there.
Throw in a couple of rides to the NWT and a quickie run to Kelowna and back and it's over 52,000 this year.
Oh yeah and don't forget the 70 KM I put on the KLR.

Thanks for the kudos, it was fun writing it up. :-)

The desert was my favorite part of the ride.
Highway 101 is awesome, but like riding in the far north, I love the solitude of the desert.
Definitely going back, only with the KLR.
Cheers, Brian

Great photos, Brian.

I got the pull-in-to-the-first-bay treatment once too, but without the grope (guess I'm not as sexy as I thought ). As they had handi-cams all over the place that day I figured they were shooting a training video, or something.

Looks like a great ride pifflemaster. Good to see some familiar picks for areas the wife and I drove the kids through this summer. The whole time on 101 and northern California I just kept thinking "damn, if I only had my bike". Cheers.

I hope the ride to nfld will be just as awsome as your trip seemed to be, Brian!

Hey Cuff, yup, it's a great road.
I've ridden it twice now, both times in the off season (early March and mid Nov), but would hate to ride it when peak tourist season was happening.

Cheers, Brian

We drove most of the Oregon coast and northern Cali on week days and it wasn't bad at all. Montery on the weekend was packed but Laguna Seca was awesome as we showed up practice day for the Rolex Invitational and had full access to the pits with the kids. My sun was just in awe at the cars, being 9, and my wife want's to go back now for MotoGP, what a girl.

We did pick up an old Goldwing when we got back for a case of beer (long story but a good one) and my wife has said we're going back to the Oregon coast as soon as it's hot again but not as far as Laguna on the bike. Should be a good trip just the two of us.

So question... What's a good inexpensive KLR gps? I just want something that shows roads on a decent sized screen. I don't care about them fancy features. I just don't want to take wrong turns.

Let me know!

Sure was. Friend of a friend wanted it out of his yard so I gave him some beer. Long story short, had the whole family kids and all in the garage helping out with the bike and she was good as new in a couple weeks. Good time spent together. Collector plate on her now and at $22/month it was well worth the effort. Here's the story and sorry to de-rail.

What is wrong with a map? Cheap, no fancy stuff and does not break.
I did my east coast run with all sorts of maps folded nicely on my tankbag.
