That's some good advice, but I don't want to have to sneak around for parking.

Mel, I will sign a petition as well.

And on another note... When snows in The Peg.... It brings out the best in the drivers skills. NOT!!!!!

It seems all the blue hairs need to get to an appointment tomorrow, so they leave early and start today.

Fantastic. If we can get more people on board I'll feel way better about sending this out. Let's keep it up.

Well, you already have more experience *crashing* a motorcycle than many of us....

That's a great idea. Might have more impact if you can get one of the larger local clubs or CMMG involved.

Is there any kind of motorcyclist run lobby group that represents Manitoba (and/or Canadian as a whole) motorcyclists? Seems to me that one reason that we're so sorely screwed by MPI is because no group (with a significant number of motorcyclists behind them) really challenges the current status quo... and the same can be said for dealings at municipal level. Not to complicate things, but I feel that in general, motorcycling in Manitoba, and the city, has a bad PR problem. I'm pretty sure there are way fewer bikes on the road registered/insured than when I was young and just getting into motorcycling. Without public support, I'm thinking it's difficult to get any concessions from any governmental branch. Mel, not trying to rain on your parade, as it is a good idea and great initiative on your part... just wondering if it's do-able. Certainly no harm in trying! A letter to the editor... Wpg Free Press/Wpg Sun, might get printed - if so that'd be a good start to getting some traction PR wise.

CMMG (Coalition of Manitoba Motorcyle Groups) is about as close as we have provincially.
CMA (Canadian Motorcycle Association) is the national group.

Wonder what group got the Toronto initiative going? Looks like they have a great moto parking bylaw.

I have no idea what I'm doing in regards to getting things rolling, I just know that if you make a stink about something, people notice. And if if you stink badly enough they'll do something about it to get you to shut up. My plan is just to kick some dirt around and see what kind of mess I can get myself into hahaha

I may be the one rider in this thread that has the LEAST amount of motorcycling experience, but in the short months that I have been riding, I've brewed a strong hatred for the way motorcycle parking is dealt with in this city. Mainly downtown, but in other areas as well. My beef is that we have to tie our parking stubs to our handlebars, which get stolen, then our bikes get towed, then you have to pay the towing fee even if you paid for parking. My suggestion is to have free motorcycle parking or something like that.

I'd like to send a stern email to the mayor but if I'm the only one that feels this way, I won't! Let me know what you guys think.
I agree with you and would sign a petition (or send an email too).

Mel's petition

Mel, I admire your moxy and spirit!!
I would be pleased to add my name to the list. Manitoba motorcyclists have been getting such a raw deal for so long AND been characterized in such bad light that it always feels as if we are being punished for our love of the sport here in Manitoba.
It seems that we have (over the years) slid into a very small silent percentage of the voting population that is easily ignored and even mistreated if it gains political equity from the rest of the voters (ie. car drivers).
Just today I was disappointed in learning that the MMIC (Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council) will ignore Winnipeg once again in it's cross Canada Motorcycle shows. They will be putting shows on in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Quebec, Moncton, and Montreal. Another slap to Manitoba's motorcylists.
It seems that in order to be a long term Manitoba motorcycle enthusiast, the best approach is to develop thick skin. Cuz you're gonna need it!

There is a pair of Motocross boots at Crown Honda... Size 9... Actually more like an 8 for fit. Last pair. The sales tag $110.00, though there may be up 70% off.
Good deal for some one with smaller feet.
