Winshield...

So the windshield you're looking at is a Pacific Scientific, mounted on an 1150 RT.

This one looks interesting and not that long so will give it a look tonight. One of our plans when my wife retires is to tour Europe. Not sure if it will be on a bike but really want to do it one way or another. Thinking of renting an apartment on the south coast of Spain or Portugal and touring from there.

Did Cabot in a car a few years ago and swore I would return on a bike

One of my bucket list trips includes Hwy 17 to Ottawa, Quebecs north shore of the St Lawrence, the Gaspe and then a tour of the Maritimes, which would include the Cabot Trail and then over to the rock and Gross Morne park.

Thanks for all the tips for my nfld trip, guys. I will take them all into consideration since you obviously know the ropes better than I do.

I really do like the route through the U.S. over the Ontario route. Although Ontario is beautiful, traffic is heavy, gas is expensive, and speed limit is 90 kmh. Also hotels are expensive and tough to find nice ones - if you are trying to camp you will be shocked at the cost of campsites.

If you're in a rush you can burn through the US on the major highways and get there fast and cheap without ever seeing a darn thing.

If you have time to take the back roads though, you could spend two weeks just traveling as far as southern Ontario and still feel like you've missed stuff.

Past Ontario I really have no experience.

Wife and I took an 8 day trip as far as Keweenaw Peninsula (northern Michigan) last summer, and still felt like we didn't have enough time to see everything we wanted! I like to book my next day's destination hotel each evening and that works well for us as we are not campers (a week's gear loads all the Goldwing bags, without hauling any camping gear!)

I would stay far away from the Chicago insanity given the opportunity.

Go look up posts by a guy named Cannonshot for lots of ride reports in the areas you will be riding through.

Now there is some great advice! Cannonshot's "Cannonrides" are some of the best ride reports I've seen on ADV. His one about riding the north shore of Lake Superior would certainly be of interest to most of us due to the close proximity:

The thing is, we can't take long getting to nfld by traveling down all the nice roads because we have a lot of stuff to do in nfld. the ride back will be done all the way through Canada so if we have time left we can mess around in the nice stuff then.

Michigan tour

I am going to tour around the upper peninsula by traveling across Lake Michigan on the ferry the SS Badger.

It looks interesting and avoids that Chicago traffic nonsense.
