Folk festival bound

Got the KLR loaded up and heading up to Birds Hill for a session of the Winnipeg Folk festival tonight. Have not been to the festival for years but Serena Ryder on stage so thought it was a good opportunity. This is actually going to be a shake down run before I head down to the Black Hills later in the month.

Have to stop in at Wildwood and get some maint parts for the BMWs on Friday.

I realize it's a few weeks away yet (August 23), but who from the Winnipeg and NWO area are heading to the Areostich Rally?
Mrs Backroader and I are hooking up with 2whlrder on August 22, a day early, to catch a little site seeing on the way and to secure a camp site on the rally grounds.
Will probably head through the Fort via Sioux Narrows.

Making plans. Will likely head down on Friday. Ribfest is also on that weekend in TBay so may head there Saturday afternoon. Too much to do and too little summer! Seems like just yesterday we were wondering when the friggin snow was going to leave.

There is a pretty good chance I'd be up for the rally.

Maybe ride through the lakes area south of Detroit Lakes then through the Brainerd Lakes area then onto Duluth on the way there. Do something different on the way back. Just kicking it around right now.

My fall trip time is already booked for first two weeks in Sept. So far looks like we'll be heading to northern Michigan. So no VBR for us.

Vbr

Just got back from another session of physio. At the rate it's going, not sure if I'll be riding east on the 18th with Whyswoman or not.
If it turns out I can't, the VBR may be an alternative.

On another note, Andy from Germany had a tankslapper and 140 KPH get-off earlier this week. No bones broken but unconsciousness and an ambulance ride to the hospital for a couple of hours resulted. Bike is pretty banged up, and now he's dealing with German and American insurance companies. His spirits are as good as can be expected, considering...

Cheers, Brian

I'll have just returned from my trip - probably too soon to leave again for a couple of days.

Rained over night and cloudy now with showers around so trying to head east.

Serena Ryder rocked the folk festival last night. It was epic with standing O and a rare folk festival encore. Will post ride report later

On another note starting to lose my BMW love. They are great bikes but just picked up 2 air filters, 2 oil filters and a couple of crush washers and paid $140 all in. I know you only change them every 10-20k but man it hurts the wallet considering I paid $7 for my KLR oil filter and washed and oiled the air filter!

I think this trend towards manufacturers recommending such long oil change intervals is ludicrous. Oil analysis testing generally shows engine oil performance petering away much before 10,000 kms. Cheap insurance and likely best thing for your engine to change oil much sooner, say 5,000 kms. On my KLR I change it sooner than that as I think oil leads a very tough life in a KLR engine.

Great article about engine oil here: http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html

...and here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/
