Just got back from a little tour around the farm roads SW of Winnipeg, from La Salle to Sanford via gravel and dirt. It's a bit chilly out!

Danny's service

Spent the whole day today At Danny's memorial.

A very emotional day to say the least. 29 is way to young to leave this place.

Huge turnout with lots of motorcycles. Danny's Dad requested all Danny's riding buds wear their riding jerseys to the service. Very different standing in church wearing a mx jersey and seeing at least half in attendance in mx jerseys...WOW a real down to earth real life service...lots of dirt bike and ice riding pics on the overhead projector with zeppelin music playing. Salutes at the church and at the graveyard of mx bikes bouncing of rev limiters in unison.

Choked back tears, but also found some laughter as we ate, drank and reminisced all day.

Will certainly miss you, my friend.

At The 'SPlats...

Well, I was later than anticipated, but finally arrived at Dan and Greta's with an escort - Dan's sister Nancy spotted me on 17E, and safely guided me to their home in Echo Bay...

It was a beautiful day for riding, and I enjoyed several "Pee Stops and Photo Ops" along the route...Unfortunately, after I had imported my photos from the camera onto the Ipad, they have disappeared into oblivion...DRAT...

Greta and her friend Gail are going to ride with me tomorrow to the "Ride Manitoulin" weekend, and I am delighted to have an "estrogen run" built into this trip...I will part company with them in time to catch the 5:45 ferry to Tobermory, where I am going to meet up with BwokenToof and his wife - to have an adventure with them in and around Owen Sound...I hope to get inside knowledge on the new BrokenTooth Project he is currently planning...

I am soooooooooo excited...

Canadian Joe NEVER worked for Chariot Cycle at any time. Joe started up peddling stuff in a garage fronting Salter St near Redwood in the mid '60's, mainly one thinks to get away from the printing trade, and further enjoy a lfetime hooby of bikes and invest from the succesful real estate "flipping" trade where he really amassed a nest egg. The Kawi thing was a windfall, as up to the H1 and Z1, the Kawa line was a wannabee line of mini and small bikes that was an embarassment to the industrial giant. Joe soon got tires of the hustle and jostle of everyone trying to steal his lines away from him and so it seems, kinda walked away after Kawi starting sinking into a police bike mentality as well as the big four going into total chaos of overproduction which haunts us still in the trade these 4 decades later. The writer is the former owner of Chariot Cycle, long since and many years in Minneapolis and Kansas City to this day as a Goldwing vintage parts producer and specialist, watching that fine marque slipping away with its present "Star Wars" trycicle concoctions for us of the present old, older and elderly generations Take a well tuned GL1000 with original breaker points against the space shuttle beauties they make now, any day of the week. Look like bikes, sound and feel like them as well. Own two for kicks. Gene

Karen and I are out near kenora already and would be up for meeting you for lunch. Lets us know where and about when you'll be going to be in Kenora.

Hi Dave - will send PM with my cell #. Suspect we'll take the Rennie way to West Hawk, and come back on # 1.

Was out today near Autopac compound and saw a flat deck tow truck with a Honda CRV and a Honda CBR on it. The bike was laying on its side and fairly beat up. Front tire had a skid flat spot clearly visible. The CRV had a pushed in passenger front fender. Based on the two on same flat deck and the fresh flat spot on the bike tire, that rider did not have much reaction time before impact.

Hope he is ok. We don't need another fatality or AutoPac will want to remove us from the road again with high insurance rates.

This is ridiculous to bring so much stuff, but when you are 14 days on the road, it is what it is!

So I'm sort of in a bind here, nobody seems to have clutch cables for the 08+ klr650, and I'm in need of one. Does any body happen to have a spare laying around that I could acquire? Of course either with the intent of replacing or buying. If anybody does and is willing to part with it give me a call (204) 295-7677.

In a pinch, the old (pre 2008) should work. There is a bend in the sleeve close to the clutch perch, but it will get you through the day until you can source a new 2008+ from Headingly.

That's what I had been using, I'll have to phone headingly again and see if they have one.

Edit: just did some phoning, nobody has an 07 or older cable either, I'm really up the creek then.

It's new to me...

Picked up my new to me 2002 1150RT yesterday in Dryden.

Burned out a headlight coming home, grip warmers didn't work, very small oil leak from the final drive input seal.
Replaced headlight bulb and grip warmer fuse this AM, now all is ok. Replaced air filter as well, it was definitely overdue.

Bike runs ok, kinda... but the throttle bodies are in serious need of a sync, and probably needs new plugs installed.
It pings a bit under hard accel, so may need to adjust the hall sensor if it doesn't clear up soon.
(It's running hi-test, but I expect it may be carbon in the cylinder head and top of the piston from being ridden like a cruiser around Dryden for 10 years. No offence intended!)

This week I'll change the tranny, final drive and engine oils (+ new filter) and flush the primary and secondary brake circuits.

It's weird having a radio/CD player in the glovebox.
The optional handlebar controller was never installed, so the radio is pretty much useless unless you're parked.
I'll probably pull it out to free up the space and save a bit of weight.
I've already removed the satellite radio as I'll never pay an annual fee to activate it.

Only farkle I need to buy is a new windscreen, as this one (BMW tall) is still way too short when I have the seat adjusted to accommodate my inseam.
Not sure if it was a California bike originally, but there are a crapload of smog canisters etc. that I may need to do something with.

This winter, for peace of mind I'll pull the tranny and lube the clutch splines, as well as put new seals in the clutch slave.
Aside from that, it's in beautiful shape. (Now that I've pulled a shitload of decals off it. No offence intended! They just weren't mine. )

No pictures. It looks just like my old one (only in better shape) and there are plenty of pics of that on the forum.

Oh yeah, I put the seat from my old RT on, as it's shaped like my ass, not someone else's. :-)

Cheers, Brian
