Mike Hutsal here:

Thought I should crash your thread. Lee - the dual sport guy from Calgary is Lee Myrah - originally from Neepawa.

10 - 15 years ago he was at the very top of the IBA's most difficult rides, all on a stock 1997 ST1100 with the stock seat.

A couple of photos from a little ride he did in 2001 (49 states in under 7 days)

This one was at 5:30 AM north of Santa Fe NM at the start of the 4th day.

Gassing up in Needles California later that afternoon - temp 110 degrees.

Finally, a picture the morning after we finished at HyderSeek in June of 2001. Lee Myrah, Ron Ayres, Mike Hutsal.

At that time we were the only ones to have completed 49 states in under 10 days. Interesting memories of rides past. I always want to take more pictures but really it is the memories of times and places that are the best reward. A camera can't capture everything!

You never know who you will meet out on the road!

Thanks Mike for posting some info about Lee. Deborah and I were camped a few hundred feet from Lee's spartan camp. We were walking past when I spotted the Vstrom and said hello. Lee was telling us about his Iron Butt rides, very cool of you to post some pictures of those past adventures. Lee told us he was waiting a day or two killing time until Monday when he had some business to attend to in Nepawa. I told
him about our plans to ride to Baldy Mountain the next day, he was noncommittal but said he might join us. But at 9am he was at our camp site ready to go!

As you can tell by the pictures we had a great time and we ended spending the entire day with Lee. He really seemed to enjoy the big cookout at Daryls yurtlike campsite. Lee was most thankful we had invited him and we chatted of how wonderful the ADV community and motorcycle enthusiasts generally are in that someone you just met feels comfortable enough to spend twelve hours plus together.

Cross Posted from the Northern Ontario Rally forum....

Okay, it is a given that every year, at the transitional periods between winter and spring, summer fall, I end up earning 2-3 days extra pay due to be weathered into or, conversely, out of, God's Lake Narrows...and truth be told, the extra money is always welcome

But why, oh why, did the Weather God's decree that I be stuck in GLN on THIS particular trip, when I so very badly want to go to Dog Lake...

Well, call me crazy, but if I get out of here and home to Winnipeg tomorrow, I am jumping on my bike and heading to Dog Lake for supper on Saturday...then I will spend the night enjoying the company there, and head back to Winnipeg first thing on Sunday morning. So if there are any stragglers who want to join me, by all means, chime in...let's go...Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be beautiful days for riding - in both places...

Anyone in Winnipeg going to join me? Or in the surrounding area? C'mon folks...this is your chance for a great spirited ride...and it may be one of the last one's for this riding season...

Guess there are no takers...

Well, I am pretty sure I am
getting out if God's today, and that Jono and I will be heading to TBay for dinner at the
NOR, but it appears there are no
Adventurous stragglers left in the Winnipeg and Surrounding Area who are up
fir a dine and dash end-of-season run...

Ah well...Jono and I will have a great ride...and will be leaving from Lagimodiere and Fermor around 7:15 am tomorrow, in case anyone changes their mind and decides to join us...

Black Hills

Love those SD pics! Compared to the damp wet pics from the NOR, the Black Hills look so inviting! Deborah and I were talking about how much we wished we could have gone. It had been our plans to go with you, but the job change and 3 weeks on the East Coast took care of that plan! Next Year for sure!!

Last Monday morning at Wagaming/Riding Mtn Park we woke up to minus 1. Any way you slice it, you've got to be a hardy vegetable to like camping in near zero (or sub-zero!) temps. A hot coffee 1st thing goes a long ways towards making that endurable IMO.
