My Bro Crashed Last Sunday

We went out for a nice sunday ride last weekend and then this happened. He was following me when I lost site of him. I waited a bit and turned around. Then a guy in a car point down this gully and I saw his bike. The car driver called 911 and the CHP showed up first.

Pretty frightening site. He had to go to the ER, while he wanted me to take care of his things. I met him at the ER and he told me the abrasions were the worst of it.

His jacket rode up his arm and exposed his skin to the slide.

The results of wearing jeans only. Don't do it, no matter how hot or inconvienant it seems at the time. This probably would have been minimalized if he had his protective gear on, but I'm glad he's doing well and getting around. He even picked his bike up at the salvage yard. He had to since his lousy insurance company would only cover $300 storage at $75 each day! Fricken' crooks.

What the hell happened? From the looks of that front end, the car hit him, or he hit the car?

Rash sucks and we learn... It is good to see that that is all he suffered.

Looks like there was a guardrail involved. His abrasions look painful, but dare I say, he was wearing the important part of ATTGATT........We can live with some skin sanded off, but he is walking and talking. Yay!

He's not sure what happened. He remembers the bike wobbling and then cart wheeling. The CHP says he missed the curve, hit the culvert, near the white mile marker. Then he flew over the driveway (where my bike is parked) and then tumbled down the gully (other side of my bike).

looks like there is a lot of tar snakes in the area....not sure if that could have been a factor???

Wow from the looks of the bike I think your bro is lucky!

I can hardly feel tar snakes most of the time, I wonder if tires make the difference? Steering geometry?

I don't think all tar snakes are the same, for some reason the ones on the Palisades Parkway are very slippery. The ones on my local streets aren't bad at all. On my truck you can hear the tires slip on the tar snakes (when going slow).

some tarsnakes are sanded before they cool during the application process.

some are not...

I have a hard time believing the tarsnakes are the primary cause of the accident, but I suppose they could have contributed...

My brother is mending well. Thanks for asking. He's getting around without the walker and even dumped the cane. He's still aways from riding though. As his other bike is a Royal Star! I think he's going to let this bike go even if the insurance company let's him buy it back. Too much work for him, but it does look salvagable.

It wasn't wet out and he's not sure. He does remember the bike wobble before he played superman.
