Yes that's the one, I didn't remember where it let out on the other side. Have pitched a tent there before. Tucked away back there alright.

Oh yes, fair enough. For this group ride we wanted to avoid gravel to accommodate all riders. I'm in a good spot because I like everything from light singletrack and forest roads all the way to racking up miles on the slab and everything in between.

(segway... )

Speaking of gravel vs slab, this weekend I'm loading up the bike and going for a 2 day trip. Will be trying out some new camping gear and checking the bikes mpg pretty closely. I'm taking a longer 2-week trip in August that includes a 300 mile stretch of gravel and 235 mile service-free stretch of road. Extra fuel will be needed at least for the gravel stretch but I want to get a very good idea of my loaded bike's MPG with various road conditions, ie do I need to carry 1, 2, 3, etc gallons?

So for the weekend I'm not sure where I'll end up yet, but want to do a fair amount of slab and offset with some good stretches of gravel roads. I'm looking at 81 down to SW VA into Kentucky or go up north through PA to NY state. Any suggestions welcome. Riders? I'm open to company as well but timing is the thing, I might leave EDIT: Saturday AM, return Monday, it's work dependent. Leaning towards PA/NY. Will know more by Wednesday PM.

Wish the TAT was closer but that's on the list someday. Heard a group might try to map it to Georgia and the coast. Definitely a rumor though.

Maybe we can find out sometime.

On our ride north from Herndan on Sunday morning, there was a gaggle
of geese on hwy 28. I was impressed by the guy who dismounted his
car and was just finishing shooing them off the road as we went by.

SteveOnTheWay, you are only a few minutes away from White's Ferry.
But I'd be glad to meet you up that way sometime and ride up
into Maryland or over into West Virginia.

As a car salesmen, weekends are the money making days. Any of you guys like doing monday-Tuesday rides?

This weekend: Firmed up a loose itinerary but will be riding up to PA Saturday if anyone wants to join. It'll most likely be a half day on the highway, then around 130 miles of backroads for the afternoon. About 95% will be gravel according to MapSource and, according to an inmate, there's apparently some nice dirt trails up near Hyner Run Got Monday off so I'll be heading farther north on Sunday before returning on Monday.

This'll be my last full weekend hurrah before I'll be doing the Mr Mom thing for a while...

On monday I will be leaving for my 15 day trip to god knows where... All that is planned right now is the beginning of the ride. I'd love to get some of the NOVA crew to help send me off. So far, I plan on doing skyline drive, and taking the blue ridge parkway till it hits north carolina. from there I honestly have no plans except that I need to be in Putney, Kentucky for BYOB on the 26th.

I'm going to be hopefully getting some time off a little later on this summer.
Monday - Tuesday rides sound good to me --- less traffic than weekends!

Wish you the best on your trip starting Monday.

Thanks, I've been planning it for so long, I hope it lives up to the build up.
