I ate a ton of that chocolate. I'd buy a small stack of 'em and sit next to the river drinking coffee, reading and getting fat all day.

alright, I wasn't going to put this story on here but a buddy of mine said it's too funny to leave out. also, he threatened to type it up himself and I'm bettin' he'd make it a bit more....uh...colorful.

I was trying to find a hotel in Guatemala one night and this guy on a dirtbike said he knew a hotel where his buddy worked at. So, I followed him to the hotel. $12 a night for A/C, hot water and cable TV. A real nice place.

I thought he was just doing it to help his friend get some business or be helpful. People have helped me out all over and I've gotten used to it. Then he asked me if I wanted to get something to eat. I thought 'wow, what a nice guy.' he said I could leave my bike since my boxes were falling off. I hopped on the back of his dirtbike and we went and got some food.

We were talking about Spanish at the restaurant and he gets a phone call. I remember him leaning over and sorta talking where I couldn't hear but he told somebody 'yeah, we're just talking about spanish. I'll call you back later.' It made me kinda nervous. I thought the guy was gonna try to rob me.

We get done and I hop on the back of his bike expecting to go straight back to my room and go to sleep. I was still a bit nervous about that phone call but thought that maybe I misunderstood. Anyways, we get to the central park and he points over and asks me if I wanted to sit in the park a while. That seemed like an odd thing to ask until I looked over at the park and saw a lot of benches with couples on them.....all hugged up on each other making out. That's when it hit me. This dude's gay. I slid back as far as I could on the bike and said 'NOOOOO! take me back to the hotel!'

I hopped off the bike, made a b-line for the door and said 'thanks' over my shoulder as I was rushing inside. It wasn't until then that all the little things started adding up to me. Like the weird pointy shoes he was wearing. What do I know about latin fashion? Or the fact that his buddy seemed kinda.....funny. But the guy himself seemed like your normal joe. That phone call was probably from his friend checking in to see how his 'date' was going :ymca

I had this purple carabiner on my camelbak that I used to hang my helmet from and I wondered if he thought that was some weird covert symbol like that foot tappin' senator ya know? I took that carabiner off my camelbak the second I got back to my room I can tell you that much!

So, yeah, I had a gay date in Guatemala. Sue me.

believe me, I've heard it. My buddy said if he had payed for the dinner I'd at least owe the guy a reach-around.

Sorry, his words, not mine--I'm not trying to get my whole ride report sent to JoMomma

Well that might be the rate in the US, but if labor's so cheap down there you might need to work a little harder for your dinner....

Wouldn't go all the way to Panama? Heck, he didn't even go all the way in Guatemala. Oh, right, "go to".

Yes, but we're glad that you shared. You've got to have a sense of humor about such things.

Seems like you've had an interesting and (mostly) enjoyable journey, so far. I suspect that the trip has been especially rewarding considering that you put a lot of work into the bike, before and during your travels.

Enjoy the rest of your journey.

Cheers.
